Depeche Mode went from boy band to dark heroin chic in just a few short years.

My bad I guess. Thought everybody on a music board would know Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC. Guess I was wrong.
Does that help?

I don't think that pic of the Cure is from the late 1970s. They weren't a trio with that lineup until late 1980. And I don't recall the hair like that until about 1982. Either way, still really early

Hartley was around until late 1980. So once Simon joined they were a 4 member band until then.

That's his trademark. He did cut his hair short which was pretty jarring

"Depeche Mode 101" from the '89 tour was on some cable channel recently. Fascinating to see what they looked like before the black leather transformation. I wasn't old enough to remember them as a semi-preppy looking boy band.
