I think by the time they funded a new ballpark for the Tigers the old Tiger Stadium would’ve had to be rebuilt from the ground up.

But I agree that place was unique and in some ways aesthetically far more interesting than Wrigley and on par with Fenway.

My understanding is that ownership let Tiger Stadium deteriorate to force the hand on a new ballpark, essentially leaving taxpayers no option if they wanted to keep the team.
