What makes it unusual is the McNeese catcher and coaches said nothing about it because she barely hit him. The other umps didn't react to it either since the ump at 3rd was still calling safe on the trail runner when he was just walking around.

Neither, it’s a rule. It sucks but a rule. LSU lost a run on the play because the runners had to return to the previous base
