RTA - Agency that runs New Orleans bus and sreetcars - is a mess

Background: the RTA is technically a state agency, but like so many "state agencies" in New Orleans, it's basically a NOLA agency... as five of the eight commissioners are appointed by the mayor.
Like many public things in the city, from about the 80s on it was terribly incompetent. Then in 2009, they privitized the service, bringing in a company (known today as TransDev) to run everything. While the RTA still owned everything, all aspects of operations, management, support, etc, was all TransDev.
And by and large... things got a lot better.
Then as 2019/2020 comes and the contract was up for renewal, a bunch of activists and politicans started up about how privitization is bad, the government agency should run it all itself, etc, so the contract was not renewed, and eventually the RTA started running everything itself again.
And pretty much since then, it's gone to hell.
LINK
The first CEO they hired had a history of problems at other agencies.
Another executive was somehow working full time for the RTA and for a transit agency in Tampa.
A contract has exploded to an insane cost without any oversight.
Drivers aren't getting paid properly and the union is freaking out
Schedules are being cut back, and service is running behind schedule all the time / last minute changes are constant
The Rampart streetcar still has not reopened afer suffering damage in the Hard Rock Hotel collapse (it took out some lines)
But the local activists still think RTA running things themselves is a good idea, because "mentors" are created or something.
These same activists are the ones who want to run out the charter school operators and have the school board get back to running schools, despite the fact that the charters are doing FAR better of a job tha the school board ever did.

The old RTA app was great, you could buy multiple tickets, the map was accurate and showed you where the street cars were. Then they came out with Le Pass and it Le sucks. Works app ever. Is this some sort of money grab? App that works great, then they pull the plug and force you to use a new app that blows chunks.

Don’t you live in Chalmette?

The busses ran really well in the 80s through the early 2000s. The agency might’ve been corrupt, but if the busses are on time, who cares?

There isn't a single agency Latoya touched that hasn't gone to shite. I had a few friends not get retained when she was elected. Both heads of major city departments. Both received yearly recognition from national agencies for the way they ran their departments. Both were routinely invited to present their methods around the globe.
Latoya gets elected, replaces them both with unqualified black women, and they immediately went to shite.

Does that mean anyone not in Nola proper can't utilize the RTA system? What's the point of asking this?
FYI, what the RTA did to the ferry system should be a fricking criminal offense. They are utterly useless.

The bigger question is how much they get paid to run it?

Bc 99% of the OP’s threads are about shite that goes on in Orleans and Jefferson and he never wants to talk about how corrupt and trashy St Bernard is

1) Weird melt
2) RTA has a bus that runs into Chalmette
3) When I am in New Orleans, sometimes I ride the streetcar
4) The entire state won't suceed until NOLA suceeds

The St Charles streetcar is pretty dang reliable. I leave work every day at exactly 7:00am. On the RTA schedule it has a streetcar at the corner of Robert and St Chales stopping at exactly that time. Four out of five days it is at the intersection. The other time it is in sight within a block away.
James Reiss turned around the RTA decades ago and it went to hell when he retired.

I've done a pretty good job talking about issue in St Bernard
For example, all the idiot whining about the port project

I’d say 20mill+ visitors a year to NOLA is pretty good.

The one main thing I agree with Landry on is his focus on NOLA. He seems to get it. NOLA's problems are holding the state back.
If the idiots in BR or Bunkie can't see that... that's on them.

Many of whom ride buses and streetcars...
And yes... the low wage, low-rent tourism business we are doing well at.
Don't you want more?

We just used Le Pass a month ago and it was awesome for the streetcar and ferry. Cost 3 of us a whole $9 to get around all day.
