I agree, but you asked about there specifically so I told you. There are much worse places to live I will say that.

Again, that’s true for almost any place in Louisiana. Whether they’ll admit it or not. It’s a thing.

I lived there for 3 years, it is not a bad town. Downtown is nice, they are slowly getting more and more things. Tons of good looking women in New Roads, they all marry plant baws. God for bid if something ever happened to Turner Industries. I enjoyed my time there, but I do not think I would want to live my whole life there. The people that do live there, generally have lived their whole life there, tons of drinking and fricking going down in New Roads

This is true.....I've never personally lived there but my dad was born and raised there, and I grew up visiting there on weekends and holidays, and we still still have very deep roots that still live there....

Grew up in New Roads (well, new roads adjacent), went to school there. It's a nice quiet place. When i was growing up, private school was the only real option. I've heard there is stem there, but i dont know. Moved away when i went to college. GO back occasionally to see friends or go to festivals.

I grew up there. I liked it, and would probably move back if I could afford a place on the lake. might move back one day when I can, and when my kids get out of school. A place on the lake would be the only way I'd consider moving back though. work was a deciding factor in leaving. of course now, lots of people work from home, etc. and residence location isn't a problem. It's a nice town.

I lived there on the lake for a couple years. I loved it.

I’ve lived multiple places in louisiana. It is not the same.

It's a very typical small town parish in Louisiana. Quiet laid back living but also lots of nepotism, incompetent leadership, cliques, and a lack of amenities and jobs.
False River is nice, food is good, and it's a nice location (can easily drive to BR, Lafayette, the basin) so it has a few more redeeming qualities than your typical rural Louisiana parish.

Went to high school in new roads and lived in one of the new roads suburbs (?). I can definitely see the appeal to the town. Just enough restaurants and bars to stay interested. Lots of hunting and fishing near and surprising number of good looking girls. I don’t see it as clickish as some on here say. You can make friends pretty easily if you put out any effort (but then again I am from there).
I never moved back mostly because I think I out grew it and work in Baton Rouge.

We had a camp my entire life on False River . Dad wanted to retire out there .
Built a nice house on the river by the court house . Just sold it.
They enjoyed their time there for years. When they got older Dr. appts were too far away , house was too much to keep up.
Only negatives I can think of are it’s a certain type of people who live there. Very cliquish , nosy small town type stuff.
Crime was getting worse . The getto is just across the tracks. Big houses on the river are an easy mark.
It will cost you a fortune to buy on the river . Legit OT baller to pull that off.

Don’t do your knuckle checks at Sonic. That’s relatively new.
Do them at Big Boys Drive-in — that’s the old school Sonic (was Sonic, but had to change so they could keep selling fried chicken).

That makes a lot of sense. I’ve had their fried chicken. It’s very good.

It’s terrible. The worst place imaginable. You will never be happy here. It’s too quiet. We have neighborhood watch programs. People care about their homes and neighborhoods. Children say yes sir and yes ma’am.
