He’s slightly below average defensively. Definitely not always sure of himself at first, but it wouldn’t be as glaring if he wasn’t following the greatest defensive 1B in college baseball history

People really do not understand baseball sometimes. Jones has the unfortunate privilege of following as good a defensive first baseman as I remember at LSU. And first if often a place they put marginal infielders to get their bat in the lineup anyway. Jones has work to do still but he is not a bad first baseman.

Just now catching up and saw that play. Jones does look bad out there sometimes. You learn to step towards the ball as a first baseman in high school and he still doesn't do it. Lester's saying he is a "good" first baseman is just not true. He's below average.

He absolutely does. He's not smooth positioning or re-positioning based on the throw. I am in no way trying to compare him to TM.
