I ( my wife’s car) had one in my previous life. I got it for the room and safety of my kids. Brought it home from dealership , loaded it to drive to D.C from Bentonville. Perfect for that . Would use to go get people from airport and event kind of things that were going on with my business at time . Was checking out of hotel in DC and mistakenly tried to get in secrect service vehicle. Scared the shite out of me. They were pretty understanding. I loved it , so did she.

On my first one, a 2019, and don’t plan to look back anytime soon. It’s been a great experience. Definitely the vehicle you want if you road trip a lot or frequently have to carry a bunch of stuff that doesn’t belong in a truck bed or trailer. Not a single issue so far (knock on wood).

Just look under the rear of one of the newer full size SUV's. Independent rear. No more solid axle under there.

Best ride I’ve ever had.
Bought an 07 in 09 from a guy in Shreveport who lost his business and was selling shite to stay afloat.
Had 58k on it when I got it. I sold it in October of this year after putting another 240k on it.
Only things that broke that absolutely required R2 was an alternator and throttle body.

The line seems to be between vehicles built in union plants and non union plants, regardless of brand. Electrical failure rates were higher at UAW plants, regardless of brand, than at non UAW plants (I'm not finding the original study I looked up over a decade ago, nobody would pay attention anyway.) The foreign brands tend to get produced in right to work states. I didn't even tell you if I, or anyone I am related to, owned a Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, etc.
But my point remains, is that OP should seek independent, extensive reliability advice, and not from a forum full of bias to justify their own purchases. One can be wedded to any number of things in a vehicle that don't really matter, but it's on the buyer. shite, I built a house with a particular builder because the women loved how they styled the sink in the powder. Stupid as shite, but it blinded me (won't lie, ex wife) to other options. Try not to do that. Opening a thread here about vehicle brands is the equivalent of asking ford-trucks.com whether Fords are reliable or not. All anecdotal, given the population size, and not worth very much.
Ex wife's Explorer had the same V-6 as two of my trucks, and she had four fuel injectors fail, whereas none of my 12 injectors ever did. It was fun being 40 miles north of Waco when the last one happened.

I’m so glad I just have 2 kids & don’t have to worry about buying an overpriced, mommy-mobile land barge like a suburban. If I had more than 3 kids, I would seriously consider one of those passenger Mercedes Sprinter vans. You can stand-up in those things & I’m pretty you can get one with a turbo diesel. Why people pay so much for a GM vehicle is beyond me.

No. Per a buddy who just bought his wife one.
It makes perfect sense to be able to buy what is basically a half ton (or even 3/4 ton truck) with a full length SUV body on it. Shame the EPA and CARB have all but ended that segment. Those 3/4 ton suburbans and excursions were the coolest and most practical thing rolling for a baw in louisiana with a big family and a big boat.

So as to not be accused of being a suburban fanboy, in that 16 years I had the 4 suburbans, I also had several other makes. Just my experience so take it for what it’s worth. Here’s my ranking mostly on reliability
Suburban/toyota 4Runner/ Honda pilot
Mazda small suv
Ford small suv
Nissan small suv
Ford super duty
Audi sedan
Volkswagen sedan

My first Suburban was a 1997. Have purchased 5 in all. All over 200K miles. It remember one needing a new fuel pump. Other than that honestly no repairs. It’s hard to believe really. Now I’ll admit they are expensive. My last one a 2022 Yukon XL Diesel 4 Wheel Drive was right at $80,000 but worth every cent. That Dura Max is so quiet and I get 24-25 MPG OVERALL.
I don’t know how you could buy a better vehicle. All were made at the Arlington, Texas plant if I recall.. My second vehicle is a 911 GTX Cabriolet and I swear I prefer the Yukon XL except on a pretty, clear day and a temperature between 60-80 degrees.

How’s the reliability on the 911? As Lemmy says, I’m completely inconsistent on cars and I’ve been thinking about a Porsche.

Anything built after about 2000 seems to be nearly invulnerable (given oil, etc.) Compared to the 1980 Datsun station wagon I drove in college, at least, lol. Carb fluid, that was a thing.
I've gotten almost 35MPG doing ... speeds potentially in great excess of posted limits on Texas roads with 70-75mpg hour limits. I do love that about a diesel, once you get it rolling, or just leave it sitting in idle, you expend almost nothing.
I don't when they shifted production there (it seems to be 2023), but you are right, they do Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade, and Yukon now. That may be a predictor of increased reliability.

You are thinking about the LX. I don't think you can get the new GX even in Luxury+ trim up to even $85k without adding a bunch of overpriced accessories. The LX 600 starts at around $95k and the Ultra Luxury is ~135K. Even the LX isn't a house on wheels like the Suburban is.

Since you're talking about European, find a mechanic that works on them. My uncle rebuilt Porches and Alfas, and has Jeremey Clarkson like opinions, but a bit less funny. They'll tell you. Even watching the Grand Tour makes me feel 100% smarter than I was 20 years ago on reliability.

It’s fairly new. Great so far. They are well built and tough as nails. Buy one if you like fast cars that feel really safe. You are in control with a new 911.

I pretty sure my last 3 Suburbans were made in Arlington. That’s at least back to 2003.
The Porsche is one fine automobile. I have a friend with one of the newer tricked out Corvette's and the Porsche is far superior in handling and acceleration to say 100 mph. The Vette has more HP but it doesn’t transfer to the wheels like the Porsche.

Expedition Max owner here. Definitely more 3rd row legroom, but at the expense of cargo space. The Suburban clearly wins there
