Any mechanics on here?

I changed out an old serpentine belt with a new one from o’reilly’s. It’s a Gates belt.
My issue is now I get a sporadic but pronounced squeal/chirp for about a half second to a second on cold starts right as engine fires up. Doesn’t occur as it’s turning over and goes away completely after. No noises or loss to performance.
Been reading a lot of forums and can’t find anyone with the same problem. Most are failing pulleys or tensioners but there’s a constant noise for that diagnosis.
TIA

Probably new belt issue. Should go away.

Appreciate it. I was gonna pop it back off and inspect it. Alison gonna clean all the pulleys just in case some old belt pieces are in the grooves.

put some belt dressing on it and see if that helps until it gets broken in.

Something changed with Gates.
We used to run them at work. They became so shitty so fast we changed suppliers.
The gates belt I put on my Toyota didn't last either. This is within the last 4 years.
I gave up on them.
I replace with OEM now for not much more and for how long they are on there.

You probably need a new belt tensioner too. Spring can get weak , also tensioner can lean out and not be in alignment with all other pulling. Also we we used to wire brush the paint off the new tensioner cause it can transfer onto Belt and cause noise too. I worked at a Chrysler dealer. Changed many belts and tensioners. We would not ever change just the belt. Hope this helps.

As good an answer as you'll find, I think.

My first thought is did you get the correct replacement belt from gates?
Second, how many miles do you have on the vehicle? I usually replace belt tensioner when I replace the belts at 60,000 miles. Belt dressing helps.
Good luck.

Double check your belt routing. One of the mechanics I work with had a similar chirp on his Tundra and I went and looked at it and the belt was routed wrong. Once he got that straightened out the noise went away. It's not hard to do and I'm talking about an aircraft mechanic with years of experience.

I had a belt (low hours) making noises on my C3 Vette. It’s got a serpentine on an LS1.
I got tired of spraying the belt dressing, installed a new OEM belt and the noise disappeared.

Appreciate all the responses, baws.
Wouldn’t a bad tensioner/pulley keep making noise and/or chirp every start up? Mine lasts all of a second then disappears.

Belts probably slipping as the torque of the engine is coming up to speed . As the belt wears in, it may go away. I have used gatorback belts with a deisel when this happened.

Rub a bar off of soap on the inside of belt carefully while motor is running. Seriously. It works. Better than any belt dressing. Just hold it against it for 5 seconds or so.

Correct a bearing on pulley or tensioner wouldn’t stop.
This is a good tool for diagnosing HF stethoscope

Yep. Or a bad pully.
The belt could also be on too loose or too tight. Honestly you normally see them too tight more than anything. They need to be snug but night tight. There should be about 1/2” play on the longest part of the belt.
