But someone with her background and documented criminal and mental history, including having served jail time, never should have been allowed to legally purchase a firearm.

The only effective way to deal with crazies like this is to involuntarily commit them. Just saying they can buy or own a firearm doesnt mean squat. They can get them from other places (private party).

If they cant get a gun they can get in a car and run over people. They can use a machete.

Its the person that is the threat and the only way to deal with them is to put them in a home.

Well that or SSS.

Hence why 5150 is a thing in California and there are similar versions in other states.

Someone deemed a danger to themselves and the public gets an involuntary stay to be evaluated and may end up remanded for quite a while as a result if things don’t go well.

Agree, but something needs to be patched/fixed if someone with this documented history can walk into your local gun store and legally purchase a firearm. Just because they can get it from somewhere illegally doesn’t mean they should also be allowed a legal path as well.

It sounds like the poor kid didn’t stand a chance. The father of the injured child is apparently a convicted sex-offender serving time in Florida.

The ex mother-in-law is a Rabbi. She is crying to the media now but why didn’t she fight for possession of her grandchild since this woman obviously was suffering from violent psychosis and was a threat to herself and the child?

Court records show Genesse Ivonne Moreno had a tumultuous divorce and custody battle, and a rocky past...

…Moreno appeared to have a rocky relationship with her ex-husband. Enrique Carranza was arrested in 2007 for a sex offense in Colorado and failed to register as a sex offender in Harris County in 2016, according to Harris County court records. He is currently in prison in Florida for failing to register as a sex offender, according to Florida Department of Corrections records.

In 2022, amid a divorce and child custody suit, Moreno filed two protective orders against her ex-husband, claiming Carranza had threatened to hurt her multiple times through Facebook and text messages. The threats occurred between 2017 to 2022, according to Montgomery County court records. The protective order petitions were dismissed after the ex could not be located.

During the 2022 divorce proceedings, Moreno’s ex-mother-in-law also tried to become the managing conservator of their son who was born in 2016, according to Montgomery County court records. Walli Carranza claimed Moreno has a diagnosis of schizophrenia and Munchausen by proxy; had been investigated by CPS four times, and was found to have harmed her child twice. Carranza alleged Moreno pointed a gun at her ex-husband and stored an unlocked handgun in her son’s diaper bag.

However, the ex-mother-in-law did not appear in court to defend these claims and a Montgomery County judge ultimately made Moreno the sole managing conservator….
