Comparison is irrelevant and misguided... One could say Wemby, being 7'4 with his athleticism, should have 25 points,15+ rebounds and at least 5 blocks a night but he refuses to do so bc he rather shoot, a below league average, 31% from the 3pt. line on 4.5 shots per game.
Conventional wisdom and metrics would tell you that Wemby should not be taking as many 3's and probably should be operating in the paint more where he is vastly a better scorer and rebounder and defensively not switch onto perimeter players bc he is best utilized as a Paint protector...

Sure, but the goal for Wemby right now is different than the goal for BI. Maybe the comparison to Wemby in the OP wasn't the best comparison but the overriding point is correct. BI needs to shoot more 3s.

Wemby is learning. He should be shooting 3s even if it's less efficient than shooting 2s. His development is more important than wins and losses right now for the Spurs.

That is not the case for the Pels and BI.

Brandon happens to be superior shooting mid range jumpers versus three point shots.
This is factually incorrect. A Brandon Ingram 3 is a more effective shot than a Brandon Ingram midrange shot.

Brandon Ingram is superior shooting 3s compared to midrange jumpers, unequivocally, by a pretty wide margin too.

You play to your strengths bc that's what likely to help you prevail in the chief goal.
For Brandon Ingram, that would be more 3s and less long range 2s.

What may have started out as a halfway silly comp is actually a good comparison because what Baron posted is spot on.

quote:

The problem isn’t just BI’s 3pa in a vacuum, you have to look at it in context of the rest of the league and the entire team. The game is trending to the 3 point shot. BI’s 3pa are below league average for a starting 3, but so are Herb’s for a 2, Zion for a 4, and JV for a 5. CJ is the only starter that attempts more 3’s than the average starting 1. Out of Herb, Zion, JV, and BI, Ingram is the best shooter and the logical choice to up his 3 point output and he just won’t do it. Like Atl said, it really limits the ceiling of this team.

The league is changing. 10 years ago the average ORtg in the NBA was 105.9 points per 100 possessions. This year it is 115.9. NBA teams are scoring 10 more points per 100 possessions now than they were just 10 years ago. That's crazy. LINK

I don't think trading Ingram is the answer because we won't get close to equal value back. They need to figure out how to make this work, and in theory you can, you just need to get BI to do what CJ has done. And that's not all on BI, Zion and Willie need to help make this happen.
