If Point Zion is so effective, why doesn’t Zion just play Point Guard full time?

It may sound silly considering he’s been a 4 or a small ball 5 his whole career, but I’m really dead serious
He has the handle. He has the court vision and passing ability. His on-ball gravity is SO MUCH greater than his off ball gravity. He’s only 6’6” so it’s not like he’s too tall to play the point…
I mean tell me why Zion can’t just be a full time point guard?

I'd argue he definitely doesn't have the handle. I mean how many times does he lower his head and just fall down on the ground and loses the ball? Quite a bit. Court vision and passing ability has looked really nice. But good handles? I wouldn't go that far.
This is coming from someone who LOVES point Zion.

He HAS the handle. Not like the best handles in the world but he has enough handles to play PG for sure.
Him losing the ball on dribbles I honestly think has more to do with him being tired and lack of conditioning than anything, and the other good thing about him playing PG full time would be that he gets even better conditioning because he’s not just sitting off ball in the corner for near as much time in a game

Z ain't got no handle to be the full time point. That's CRAZY.

I just don’t think this is true at all. He doesn’t have the handle to be Curry or Lillard, but you don’t have to have insane handles to run point

You know why....
Please tell us why, because he played almost 12 straight minutes last night at a high pace before needing a breather.

Because we need to run his sets out of the post where he's the most effective.

I don’t have access to the stats I would need to test this, and I also don’t know if Point Zion is even a big enough sample yet this year to make a comparison, but my gut tells me this is false

And? That doesn't mean he can run point Zion for 35 minutes a game right now. His conditioning is gotten a lot better but to run point Zion full time and at the pace we play at night in and night our, he needs to be in top tier conditioning. Simple as that.

Because he can't dribble while being hacked with impunity by defenders.
Joel or AD mentioned a few games ago that Griff said a big issue is Zion leads with his shoulder which reduces the visibility of the fouls to refs vs foul merchants like Harden and SGA who have their hands front and center for the refs to see the fouls. I'm not sure I buy that, because it's usually pretty obvious to me, but if it's true I'm not sure there's much he can do. Leading with his shoulder is part of how he does his thing.

If you mean what Point Zion is then I agree.

My guy, look at the 4th q of last game. I don't care what season stats say. Zion got the ball in the post or 15ft in during the 4th and absolutely dominated.

I bet you he gets hacked less when he’s dribbling in broad daylight at the top of the key than if he’s in extreme lane traffic

As Kim Mulkey recently put it, PG is more than facilitating and scoring. A PG is metaphorically the QB for the offense AND the MLB for the defense, directing plays, matchups, & anticipating counter responses.
It's actually really a lot of responsibilty, especially for a person whose innate superior talent disguises his lack of maturity/work ethic/effort/professionalism required to be a leader on both ends.
Of course, he's capable. He's talented enough to be the best player in the league. But sadly, he's not, only because he doesn't put in the work.

Well if Kim Mulkey said it, who are we to argue because womens college basketball is the same as professional men’s basketball.
Sorry not trying to be an arse but its funny you quoted Kim Mulkey in regards to Zion playing point on a pelicans board.

Ok I just looked at the 4th quarter
1 maybe 2 of Zion’s buckets were back to the basket. The rest of them were all with him facing the basket…

If Point Zion is so effective, why doesn’t Zion just play Point Guard full time?
For example, Lebron and Luka are point guards
The notion that the position you guard is your position is also silly since for the best of the best, their offensive skills are more important than defensive skills.

Right. Willie doesn’t like it because he’s a defensive minded coach and he wants a steady predictable offense. This is one reason why Willie is not the answer for a contending team.
