re: Jose has to be in the regular rotation, who sits?

This isn't meant to be directed specifically at you.
How exactly can anyone think this way with how last night went?
Our starting center played only 11 minutes. Naji did not play. Jose/ Hawk had 15 total minutes.
I just can't wrap my head around this one.
BI/Z/CJ/Dyson all played more minutes than they normally do because of the opponent and trying to get a big road win.
If this was our normal rotation and minutes, I'd agree. But it's not, and it also shouldn't be as well. Zion/BI/CJ aren't and shouldn't be playing 36mpg, same with Dyson getting 23 minutes.

But it's not the regular season norm.
Ok sure that's a fair point. A season norm would be your center playing 25-30min and we couldn't have really played any "smaller".
So where do those -15min get taken from with Hawk/ Jose get +15min?

Dyson Daniels took their minutes last night because he was that good.
Posted on 2/8/24 at 11:16 am to Dantheman504
Since Dyson can really play 1-4, the odd man out is obvious to me, Naji. I understand Dyson's offensive struggles but it's not like Naji is above average on offense either. Willie cannot get out of his own way here and it's why I hope Naji gets traded today.

Dyson defense is always good but against a really good team Dyson attempted 7 shots- the most in nearly a month. (Went 5-7). Also scored 10 points- most in a month. I also think he had more than one dunk as well. The fact he did that against a really good clippers team to me was the most promising ive seen him offensively. The last 2 games ive seen his offensive aggression grow- ive been a Dyson critic myself but if he can continue doing this on offense- really helps our team.

If Jose were 3 inches taller it would make him so much more money than he currently does. His size is his big drawback but he’s a pit bull on a team that besides maybe Naji really doesn’t have many of those players with that dog in them. Naji would be the last guy on the squad you’d want to fight in the back alley, that’s easy to see. I can see where there will be games that the length that Dyson and Hawk provide will keep Jose on the bench but I still think he is a guy we have to keep involved regularly.

CJ 32
Herb 28
BI 33
Zion 30
Val 25
Trey 25
Nance 18
Dyson 19
Hawkins 15
Jose 15
10 man rotation, everyone gets at least 15 minutes. And obviously you can change it up based on matchup/hot hand.

Right I get that. It doesn't matter... It's not sustainable.
You do realize at some point Dyson either has to get better on offense which gives him more playing time like Herb or he digresses/ gets traded?
Jose is the biggest "This is what he is" but at what cost for his next contract?
Hawk is pretty much safe unless he also digresses on defense
So unless you are banking on Dyson getting worse on offense or Hawkins getting worse on defense then Jose doesn't make any damn sense at some point.

I would agree with you if I cherry picked numbers, but I took a 30 game sample size from the last two months. Sure, there could be other factors that impact that, but in the whole, it becomes clear that Jose is an integral part of the rotation.
There were even games recently were Jose was DNP for Hawkins and now it’s flipped.

quote:Yes, and when that point occurs, the 10 man rotation I mentioned above will be irrelevant because the team will be different.

So when Dyson does reach that point, we can access it then, but would is the point of saying it can' work right NOW because Dyson will need more minutes at some point in the future?
You can do it now, so do it. When that time comes where someone needs to get squeezed out, you address it then.
quote:Right, at some point. But we don't need to make moves until we get closer to that point. And also, that's an assumption, it is also possible Dyson never gets to that point.

He's been in the top 3 in Net rating on the team in each of his 3 seasons.
That's not really a coincidence.
The only caveat to that is he rarely plays high leverage minutes, and that's ok. He's a difference maker, whether he's closing games or not. He needs to be in the rotation IMO.

And that's now. Jose is a team option contract year with BI/ Trey getting payed as well that same year. And then followed by Dyson the next year.
That "sqeeze" is now! If you want to keep him and give (1) of Hawk/ Jose/ Dyson a DNP every game until 1 gets traded halfway through next season then sure but that doesn't change the fact that it's going to happen and already pretty much is.

All 3 are under contract next season under our control. Dyson doesn't get an extension until 2026. Trey will get one. I don't get why it's now. It's not now or even next season, they're all under contract.

For now and even next season, we do have enough minutes to go around.
Also factor, a teams 10 man rotation has all 10 men healthy, what, 25 to 35% of the time? Probably less than half the time, so even more minutes are available more often than not.

Oh, I like this one.
I may be wrong and taking credit erroneously, but I feel like I've long been the "Jose wins his minutes" guy on here, so this one hits close to home, brings a tear to my eye.

MINUTES! You know like the fact that Naji isn't playing and 1 of those guys still had a DNP essentially?
Are you asking why I'd rather trade Jose now to give Hawk/ Dyson more minutes to mature and to see what our other roster holes are since that's repetitive and he won't be in our long term plans with the continued progress of DD/ Hawk?
Why do you want to keep Jose? Because you like him and we can? I like him too but we probably can't pay him and won't have minutes so I'd much rather Hawkins get 30min and work on defense and Dyson 30 min and work on offense. All while perfecting the things that they are already better than Jose at....

MINUTES

I'm asking why you think the time is now when there 8s absolutely a clear path for all 3 to be in the rotation.
quote:Because when he's on the court, we win minutes over and over and over. That's not a coincidence after yearly 3000 minutes of it.
Why do you want to keep Jose?

But I hate winning minutes! Let's develop a bad defensive player more and sacrifice wins in a must have success season!
His value to the league isn't the same thing as his value to us, and there's nothing wrong with it. The chemistry is vital to our success, especially his with our players.
I'll fricking die on the Jose needs to play hill

No idea how people can watch Jose this season and think he shouldn’t be in the rotation. Baffling to me. The answer is simple, Jose, Dyson, and Hawk can all get minutes while Naji gets zero.
