Say you won the lottery, and wanted to build a golf course. Who would you hire to be the architect, where would you build it, what courses would you take inspiration from and what would you want the signature hole to be?
Personally, I would find the best possible land in louisiana (our golf blows) and hire Coore and Crenshaw to build a match play course (similar to Ohoopee and Ballyneal). I would want the course to have similar aesthetics to Pinehurst and Pine Valley , with natural waste areas and a rugged look to it. I would want my signature hole to be short driveable par 4 with a wild green and deep bunkering around the green to make par a good score. I think the concept of Ohoopee Match Club is so cool. The winner of the previous hole chooses the tee box for the hole, no stroke play, would be so much fun. It would also allow the architect to do some wild shite that they couldn’t do on a Par 72 Championship style course.

All I know is that I’d build some hills. It stinks playing on a completely flat course.

I'd go with King Collins. With flat land, you'd want someone who would be "maximilist." Create some features and elevation changes.
Coore and Crenshaw are great but I think it would be tough to do their style with no interest land features.

C&C are artists, but they need a special canvas to start with.
I would hire Tom Doak.

The match play format is so refreshing.
Almost all golf should be either skins or match.

Those match play courses the ones the YouTubers play that don't have tee boxes? Whoever is up picks a place to play from? I wouldn't be mad at that.

There could be some on youtube but i doubt there are any of Ohoopee Match Club and Ballyneal as they are super private. Id recommend giving them a google. They are amazing

I'd just buy Paynes Valley, Ozark National and Buffalo Run. Great diversity and just awesome courses.

Andrew Green is who I'd hire. I'm also a huge fan of Golden Age architecture and he's the best in the business in doing renovations and restorations.

what do you like then?

Oh, I was just saying those 2 match play courses listed are not the ones that the YouTubers play on. There is hotels and condos on those the YouTubers play. I have no doubt the 2 listed are nice courses.

I'd prolly hope to find somewhere with stunning ocean views and cliffs like Normandy France or Ireland, sandy soil, and relatively close to an interesting city of 100k+. Tom Doak as the architect. I like the idea of half par holes incorporating risk reward.

I always thought that Zemurray Gardens would have made a bitchin layout.

If you want another Ohoopee or Ballyneal why hire Coore and Crenshaw? Just hire Hanse or Doak.
