The Roman Republic fell and was replaced by the Roman Empire before the empire fell a few hundred years later.

We are rapidly approaching the point where Caesar crosses the Rubicon or has the Ides of March.

I think our Rubicon moment was electing Obama.

The Ides of March happened in 1865.

We’re at the mid 4th Century, where we keep trying to bring in waves of immigrants while being constantly pressured by outside enemies as we hyper-inflate our currency and turn our military into a political patronage paper tiger.

before Caesar there was Cornelius Felix Sulla and Gaius Marius. the civil war between these factions pretty much set the table for Caesar becoming a prominent political figure and his ascension to Rome's highest office, the Consulship.

if Caesar didn't flee Rome, Sulla would have probably killed him during the purge. there was a list nailed to the Senate Chambers and everyday the list got longer.

Good. Give me a benevolent dictator any day. Why the Roman republic always gets propped up as this magical era is beyond me.. they were career politicians and essentially celebrities living in excess.
Napoleon and Caesar get so much shite but what they created was so much better than what was before… it very well may take such a figure to step up and un frick what’s currently happening in our country. Our “republic” isn’t doing too great of a job
