I’m a stay at home mom. We live on my husbands income. Contrary with a previous poster had stated there’s actually a double income trap when both parents work. You tend to step up your spending to match the double income, thereby exposing yourself if one of you loses their job. We live on a single income, have investment accounts and life insurance. I have a business degree and professional certifications. I have had to step in when we were younger and he was laid off. I don’t make as much as him but covered mortgage and insurance until he could get another job. If we’d bought a home, cars, vacations, assuming both of our salaries-we’d have been fricked.
We don't need my wife's income to live, but we do if we want to go on vacations, and if we ever want to retire.
