Mr Heater blind heater

I have one new as of last year. This year I noticed when it was left in blind over night in those really cold days the next day it would pilot light but would not kick on. Once I waited the right time when I took my finger off the button pilot light would go out.
Just tried it in same set up but w/o leaving it out overnight in the cold blind !| it works fine so isn’t the propane or the operator. It hadn’t tilted over or loose connection etc..
Have noticed problems when the propane or heater is very cold when you try to start it?

sometimes. Just hold down the pilot longer

I tried that holding it down to 40-50 seconds when it says hold for 30. Didn’t work for me.

Based on what you’re describing I would imagine it’s that the entire unit/thermacouple is colder which is then keeping the thermacouple from staying open.
Basically it’s takes twice as long to get it heated when it’s twice as cold if that makes sense.

sometimes the opening that the propane comes out of gets dirty and that problem occurs. Take a q tip and pull some of the fibers off (if you don't the end of the q tip will get stuck in there and its a massive PIA to get out) then soak the q tip in rubbing alcohol and clean the tube and it works again.
You can test it out if you try and light it with an alternative source other than the pilot lighter it won't light either. I have had it happen several times, fixes it very easily.

Hold it down wayyyyy longer.
I've lit mine below zero before after it spent the night outside. It just takes a damn long time to get the thermocouple hot enough to stay open.

Remember also that the gas itself will be at a much lower pressure when it’s cold, which doesn’t help the lighting task. I noticed this when the lighter didn’t want to light, had to stick it inside my vest to warm it up, then it lit.

I’ve gone through several of the square ones. They just quit lighting or they will randomly turn off. I tried cleaning them etc. I eventually just tossed them and bought one of the circular ones. It hasn’t failed yet.

quote:This is for sure a legit reason. During the freeze a couple weeks back, my driveway gate ram was frozen shut. Went grab my propane torch out of the truck toolbox to melt the ice and couldnt get a bigger flame than a BIC lighter. Swapped bottles to a brand new one from the front hatch of my duck boat and same thing. Those 1lb bottles hate being cold.

You can youtube how to remove the thermocouple.
Heater will light in 3 seconds after.

I have a few coleman propane heaters that I leave in a couple stands (usually stands I might hunt in all day). They seem to work without issue.

Do this. Mine had the same problem after sitting up all summer. Clean the thermo tube with a q tip soaked on alcohol. Or wrap a lens cleaning wipe around a q tip. Worked perfectly after.
