Michigan was the first school to have the Jordan Brand. They are also a blue blood MBB school, so the brand has more pull there.

OU and Florida are more likely schools that got offered a deal to switch from Nike to Jordan to help with brand awareness.

Well if we got $18M per year like UCLA did with Under Armour it would be tempting. Texas and Ohio State get over $16M per year with Nike. We sold cheap.

Population of Louisiana is around 4.5 million. The population of the LA metro is 18.5 million. If you don’t understand market size, you’ll never understand these contracts.

If they’d release some of that team/player specific gear (dunking tiger, Louisianimals, state of football) to the public Nike would print money

I hate the idea of having the logo of a silhouette of MJ with a basketball on a football jersey. That just looks silly.

yeah, i was going to say, i bet ohio state and texas do wayyyy more merch sales for nike

we are a relatively small fanbase compared to most other powers in college football. i think our massive social media presence makes it easy to forget that.

Let me counter….Skenes, Crews, Daniels, Reese, 2 nattys where the brand is displayed in deep tournament runs, Heismann and every highlight reel leading up to the draft, and maybe the most recognizable in Livvy Dunne.

Like I said eyeballs on TVs for the swoosh matter and LSU delivers as good as any. We sold cheap.

That didn’t last long because UCLA switched to Jumpman two years ago.

You’d be surprised. We sell more than many huge state programs. Following is a little dated, but you get the idea.

It's not very often we have the privilege of an esteemed athletic apparel market analyst on this board. You should do an AMA because it seems like you are just oozing knowledge of the industry.

I wish it was Under Armor. I will never buy that other brand

My LSU gear is the only thing I buy Nike, and not all of it is Nike. There are ways around that. Say what you want though, just because UA or Adidas or Reebok may not be as outspoken about their political affiliations, the majority of their corporate structure feels the same way Nike does.

Interesting. Definitely surprising to me

I’d really like an updated list.

Isn’t Under Armour teetering on the edge of bankruptcy? Who wears Under Armour? It can’t be many - Auburn, Maryland? Adidas is horrendous too.

UA uniforms/shoes/cleats are so ugly. say what you want about nike politically but they make the best looking uniforms and accessories. i'm glad we're a nike school.

Oh yea it’s so much more important that the uniforms look slightly better and your polo has a swoosh instead of a U, that we ignore the massive slave labor making your $80 XXL polo

This would be a good argument if 90% of schools weren’t Nike schools. Star players are going to be wearing Nike the majority of the time because Nike controls the majority of that market.

I’m pretty sure the Jordan Brand football schools use those for football and basketball only.

Regardless, Nike gear is slightly different than Jordan in overall quality. LSU, FSU, Bama are a handful of schools that are given prototype gear. A lot of that gear gets used in the NFL. For example: the jerseys we wore this year were worn by the schools I mentioned, but also worn by all NFL teams (except Green Bay who loves those mesh jerseys.)

That is a tiny but significant part of recruiting players.
