Depending on location of hotel vs friends' set up on the route, it's probably only an hour and 15 minute walk along the route.
Probably would have no issue Ubering to friends in the morning and then just walking the route back to hotel in afternoon.
The walks really don't seem all that bad with all the people watching you can do and drinks in your hand.

The other thing you have to take into account is where you're staying downtown and will the day parades affect an uber getting near your hotel.
You might be better off trying to get a pedicab to take you depending on what time you decide to head to your hotel.

I agree.
It’s Mardi Gras, be prepared to walk, at least some.

Ride share away before the parade is manageable because most drivers are dropping people off at the route and fewer riders are trying to leave. A driver would love to pick someone up after a parade drop-off and bring you downtown.
You most want to avoid a ride that needs to get around the route so if you get to the I-10 side of Canal you should be fine, something like Carrollton and Banks in front of Jesuit or Canal toward the cemeteries are easier to get to and shoot out back to I-10. Banks and either Broad or Norman Francis Parkway and then shoot over I-10 to Earhart to downtown.

Buy a cheap bike from thrift store that you can ride the route
When you arrive back downtown, leave it for a bum

Depends where in Mid City they are. If they are close to Canal, I would park off Carrollton closer to Banks and either take Tulane downtown or backtrack through uptown into the CBD down to the Convention Center (this year)....either way, it's going to be a day of a lot of walking
