Whose the other juco DT we have our eyes on? Shea alluded to him and dandy don also did today but no name..

He’s listed as a guard?

Yeah, but he is on the d line now.
I think he was a juco all American with 10 sacks.

DT with 10 sacks @ any level is worth a look!

It’s interesting.
No disrespect to shone but if this guy signs with us it will be very interesting to see which of the two pans out.
Muhammed is a JUCO AA with 10 sacks decent size 63 280 and is a guy who got flipped to defense so you would think could continue to develop but is barely rated by any service.
Shone (while not a 5 star) is a guy who was rated by the services in high school as a DT signed with UGA but juco stats are kinda poor (I think 1.5 sacks?) yet he’s higher rated by the services coming out of juco.
Just shows they’re bias to the original ratings out of high school.

I don’t doubt it. However, I wonder how the competition at Garden City CC (Muhammad) compares to that of East Mississippi CC (Washington).

Garden City is one of the better JUCO’s along with EMCC

Shoulda also note that Jalil had 20 offers out of high school including Baylor so he has potential. Looked athletic in the clips I watched on his hudl.

Wasn't a Grad Transfer mentioned too? Something that this player would graduate this Spring. Any idea who this might be as well?

Dave Aranda has an eye for aggressive DTs.

Possibly or it just shows that sacks aren’t at the top of the list of things you look at when evaluating an interior D lineman. Muhammad could turn out to be better than Washington. However saying he we be because of sack numbers is like judging a linebacker prospect on their interception numbers or a QB on rushing touchdowns. It’s nice to have but probably not the most important stat for the position.

Yea sacks are not a good eval for DTs. They could be a space eater who's job is to eat blocks. These guys don't make good QB rushers

whatever happened with Jaden Hamlin?
Posted on 1/18/24 at 10:47 am to Tigershine
Hamlin was an injury risk and fell to i think ULM

I believe our staff cooled down on him after he visited, possibly due to an injury

moves good for 280, tenacious, shows some nice technique too (swim move)
just can be hard to eval the competition, but looks good

Muhammad, with the right coaching and a little more good weight could end up panning out extremely well.
We'd be lucky to have him. 3 years of eligibility remaining too. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe both of the Juco guys have 3 years remaining.

Unless you can tell me all about how each of these guys actually looked this year--visually, beyond just stats--and what levels of competition they each faced, and their respective playstyles and the playstyles of each of their teams, and how they each fared when they weren't rushing the passer, i don't think you're capable of saying that their respective ratings show that the services are biased to their original ratings.
For one thing, it's possible to be a superstar DT and still not rack up gaudy sack totals, especially when you are playing in a system where IDL guys are supposed to be pluggers more than pass rushers. Look at UGA--neither Jalen Carter nor Jordan Davis ever had more than 3.0 sacks in a season. Hell, at LSU, Glenn Dorsey only topped 3 sacks in a season once in his career, and never topped 7. I wouldn't call Mekhi Wingo a superstar, but in his all-america season, he only had 3 sacks in 14 games.
For two, based purely on Muhammad's listed height/weight, it's probably safe to say that he's a "gap shooter" type DT--a 3 technique--rather than a run-stuffer or even an all-around IDL. I don't know much about Muhammad specifically, but oftentimes those type guys leave a lot to be desired against the run. Well, what if he's not a particularly outstanding athlete, and the passrush numbers dry up against SEC competition? That's totally possible, given that none of us have actually seen the guy play or have a sense for his athletic profile - and if that's the case then all of a sudden you're looking at a pass-rush specialist who can't rush the passer. Is it crazy to have shone washington ranked over that guy? That's proof of bias?
Look, I don't know whether any of this is actually the case--Muhammad might turn out to be a total badass--but the point is that you don't know either. You can't infer bias with respect to 247's evaluations if you have no basis on which to come up with your own evaluation.
