He has been healthy, if not in shape, but do you still really trust him?
Our best chance to maximize the winning of this franchise is Zion at the #1. Make Zion the #1 and let the chips fall where they may. If it fails, you at least did the right thing IMO to try and get the most out of this team that we can.

Willie and the team were burned by Zion going on the shelf for good last season, so I would understand if the coaches want to develop an offense less reliant on him this year
quote:Zion is definitely not blameless here, no doubt.
But really on this point, I mostly put this on Zion instead of Willie.

Totes was Monty Williams #1 defender too while he was the coach. He gonna defend “his guys”.

Zion has shown a ceiling much higher than anything Ingram has. This team played its best basketball in the last five years during December 2022. Zion came back to a team where his coach and GM spent the entire preseason talking about how Ingram was going to have the ball more and be the primary driver of the offense. Zion missed the last half of the season and has still only played in 146 career games. There will be growing pains but you have to go through that if this team has a chance of being anything more than a play-in team.
Do you trust Ingram more than Zion? We have much more data on Ingram as the closer and primary option. It is a mixed bag at best. We aren't going anywhere of significance with Ingram as the #1. We HAVE to give Zion the keys to the franchise and live with the results. It is the only option.

This team played its best basketball in the last five years during December 2022.
1st 20 games of the season, BI took 18.7 shots per game. BI had a -.5 Plus/Minus.
We were 10-10 in those games.
After those 20 games, in the next and last 17 games, BI is down to only 13.9 shots per game. BI is +6.5 in those games.
We are 11-6 in those games.
Even these last 7 games where BI has been awful, shooting 42% from the field. Those 7 games, he's all the way down to 11.1 shots per game. Still + 4.1, and we're still 4-3 in those games, with a pretty rough schedule.

I agree with this completely but part of this is also BI buying into being number 2 which personally I don’t see him doing. Then the question becomes if hes not going to buy into being number two does he extend with us this offseason? And if he chooses not to- do you have to consider trading him? Lot of domino effects with Zion being the main guy but ultimately I do think thats the best pathway for the team.

No. I think it’s pretty clear this team’s highest ceiling runs through Zion and not Ingram as the number 1 option. I really do believe peak Zion is a rare, rare player who can be an elite individual scorer while making all his teammates better offensive players.
Why it hasn’t happened really clicked yet this year when Zion has been healthy is anyone’s guess.

He's still getting closer all the time.

You are 100% confusing me with someone else. I was never much of a fan of Monty.

The desire to fire Willie is not rational. It’s impulsive.

I’m still curious about where this came from. Out of thin air, as far as I’m concerned.
If anything, I was one of very few people who pointed out how much Monty sucked here where everyone was romanticizing his tenure here as recently as a year ago.

I’ve seen enough
Can these threads just stop already. The dude isn't going anywhere. No need for a fire the coach thread after every loss. When Willie has been given a healthy lineup, he has shown he can be a more than capable head coach.
If we're going to do anything noteworthy in the playoffs, it's with Zion at the helm. That's just a fact. Another fact is that Zion doesn't need a 10th different head coach in his 5 year career.

I thought that getting mods would help with this crap. I thought that stupid threads like this would just get anchored.
I doesn't happen, though. This board just gets dumber and dumber.

We’re on step 2 tonight.

I gave Willie props in the game thread. He coaches his best game last night. He really did a nice job riding Zion when he got hot while continuing to put Plumlee in action.

If I could show you all the deleted threads man.
This one was kept around for bumpable moments like this, but yeah it can get anchored now

Willie has shown some real progress over these last three games. He brought Z back much quicker and extended his minutes against SA and LAC. He rode Ingram when he was on his heater against Toronto. I also thought the game plan last night was fantastic. Really nothing to complain about in the plan or execution. There have been some real changes that are easy to see that have led to this 4 game winning streak. Let's hope it continues!

I see we made it back to step 1 after just one game.
