Keeping rats out of a grill?

I’ve found rat droppings in the grease tray of my built in gas grill…made me want to rip the thing out and get a new one. Instead I just burned it for 10 minutes at 650F. Any suggestions on keeping rats out of there?
Pretty sure they are only interested in the grease trap part, as no droppings on the grates or anything. Still pretty dang gross.

Put peppermint oil in small container in the base of the grill. It keeps the rodents away as they don't like it.

If the turd has a white tip on one end it's not rats, Its lizards.

The best way to keep rats away is to kill them. I’d keep poison or a trap. They make some solid kid and dog friendly rat trap boxes you can put underneath there with some bait. That’s what I’d do

Yea I guess I just need to step up the routine maintenance- had them under control about 6 months ago but seems they are back. Time to reload traps.
Definitely rats though. Thanks for the advice!

I’ll try the peppermint for sure. Never heard that. Thanks.

Yep. I have a big shed in the back yard and a woodworking shop on the ground floor of my house and both those areas get snap traps set this time of year as the weather cools.
I had a rat caught in my shop when I went to grab a few tools yesterday. I always set them with peanut butter since I found it works best to attract them.

Biggest ratS I have ever seen was in a wood shop north of Kaplan. They were as big a cats and the owner was oblivious.
