"Hunting" quail at Covey Rise

Has anybody here ever done this? How is it and is it worth the money? I've shot ducks there and felt kind of dirty afterwards (I brought my son there years ago to whack his first quacker and it felt like shooting tame ducks in a park.). Is the quail experience different?

Dont mean to hijack, but what was the duck hunt like? Was thinking of doing the same thing with my little guy.

Used a gift certificate there for a father/son quail hunt this past Fall. It was our first-time upland hunting and we enjoyed it. Our guide was professional and personable the entire time. Even let us stay out "later" to hunt a pheasant that wandered into our field. We intend to go back for a mixed bag or pheasant only hunt.

Hunted quail there a few times. Birds fly good. Guides are really good dudes. It's not cheap but fun.

It's fun, but it's not like real duck hunting. They're pen raised birds that are released and pretty much trained to fly form point A to point B. How old is your little man? Mine was eight and used my old 20 gauge single shot.

The quail “shooting” is pretty cool, and sporting , I enjoy it a lot, CR is very expensive but they put on a great show at a very nice facility , I consider it the Filson experience
For a similar shoot at a significantly lower price look at Thornhill hunting preserve in Jayess Mississippi, no lodge, no fancy meals, but a heck of a shooting experience with a little entertainment from MR Wayne , I consider this the “wrangler” experience Thornhill, I think his price as $12/bird this year

Thanks! I'll give them a look, too. The good thing about Covey Rise is our camp is about 10 miles from the facility so I wouldn't need lodging.

Thornhill is only about an hour away from Covey rise, my camp is only a few minutes from there is how I found it, but an easy drive , I usually go to Covey rise once a year or so , let me know if you end up here , stop by and visit

The quail hunt isn't nearly as bad as the duck hunting. The quail have a chance if you can look past the part that they were put out by hand a few hours prior to your arrival in the field.
Also, if you don't kill them the hawks will.

Covey rise is doing a tower pheasant shoot MLK day in the afternoon, not sure if it is fully booked or not, but I did it once and enjoyed it

I second this. Great guy. Great set up. I go several times a year.

Next time you are up tell Wayne to get you in touch with the Jambalaya cook, and stop by

Quail is definitely more sporting. They go release them early that morning. Dogs actually hunt them. It’s a good time.

We went to Thornhill this week. I had a blast. My Dad and I went with my uncle. It was a Christmas gift from my Dad.
The birds flew really well and you had to be on your toes.

I’ll do that. We usually hit Jayess catfish and get fried green tomatoes with etouffee and frog legs for lunch.

They have the best frog legs I have ever eaten
Rules
