Not if they attend class the first day, which was the 10th.

Dude has impacted the lives of thousands of kids I don’t think he really deserves much scrutiny about his decision making and character

you actually have this backwards.
any student athlete already enrolled has 30 days from the coach leaving to enter the portal.
whether he attended classes or not is not a criteria. Just “enrollment”.
if they have not yet enrolled, then the university must release them to be eligible for the portal.

if not yet enrolled the university must release same from their LOI and the player can then reopen their recruiting process.
the rest of your post I agree with 100%.

Why you should commit to a school not a coach.

What's he supposed to do? Coach until he dies to get around this problem? Do a lame duck year where all the recruits know he will not be there and won't know who will? There is no good solution to this.

Probably not all, but I bet that several of those recruits asked him if he was going to retire. I wonder what they were told.

I think there would be academic roadblocks to transferring in the middle of a semester. Maybe in the summer, but by then seems too late to use the coach leaving clause. Kids got screwed.

They will have to ask Bama to release them voluntarily. If Bama doesn't consent, the EEs would have to take an appeal to the NLI committee or stick around for the spring semester and THEN transfer out.
They still have multiple avenues to get out if they want, but because of Saban's timing they will have to jump through hoops.
Dood! In what dark universe does Alabama NOT make the transfers easy on these FB players? After all the glory brought to them by Saban (jk) and the 30-day transfer allowance rule after a HC leaves?
Stop creating drama where there is none -- those that wanna leave can leave
Post about what DLine doods we can get in February

Yeah I’m sure Saban was trying to screw over all of the kids that he just signed
While I’m sure it was previously on its mind, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it was just some bullshite of the day, a worthless kid walking in, demanding more NIL money, that made him quit.

He is the "FACE" of the program for which they want to attend and play ball. Regardless of him being the head coach, Alabama was, is, and always will be Alabama.

correct, meaning if not yet enrolled, they have to get a release from the school to be eligible to reopen recruiting.
those already enrolled are free and clear for 30 days to enter the portal and the school cannot stop them.

1. Alabama has at least 16 early enrollees this recruiting cycle
2. If requested, a recruit/commit must be automatically released from their letter of intent if (1) the coach leaves, AND (2) they haven't attended classes yet
3. Alabama's spring semester started yesterday, January 10th
Because Saban waited to announce his retirement until after classes started, the early enrollees are no longer entitled to an automatic release from their NLI. They will have to ask Bama to release them voluntarily. If Bama doesn't consent, the EEs would have to take an appeal to the NLI committee or stick around for the spring semester and THEN transfer out.
They still have multiple avenues to get out if they want, but because of Saban's timing they will have to jump through hoops.
bad look there.

At first I read that as bama’s early paroles.

They are groupies because they wanted to play for the best coach ever and pretty much guaranteed to win a championship?
Posted on 1/12/24 at 10:25 am to SonOfDad
We probably get sayin had he retired earlier

quote:You are conflating NLI, which becomes moot once a player enrolls and is placed on scholarship, and being enrolled and having access to the transfer portal with the school having no say in the player's decision.
Not if they attend class the first day, which was the 10th.
The NLI binds the player to attend the school and binds the school to provide a scholarship to the player.
If not enrolled the player needs to request a release from the NLI in order to reopen their recruiting process, which once requested the school must grant due to the coach leaving.
If enrolled and having been placed on scholarship, the player can enter the portal at any time during the 30 day period which the school has no say in the player's decision.
