Two things. USL sounds way cooler than anything they can attempt to brand as. Monroe is certainly not deserving of the “Louisiana” designation. Their enrollment is a fraction of UL-Lafayette’s, the school’s relevance academically and athletically isn’t close then you have the whole cultural thing. Hate them or not, Lafayette is much more “Louisiana” than Monroe could ever dream of being.

Three actually

We’re actually secure in what we are and don’t have to act like something we’re not. Tbh I wish we were still NLU

Exactly. Monroe is cool with being Monroe. Whether that’s NLU or ULM. A certain segment of LSU fans are the ones that care more than anyone as if ULL being UL will impact LSU’s brand. I

LTU people are probably the second biggest contingency that are against the UL thing

I see this a lot from fans of other in-state schools. The insinuation that other in-state schools know their place and aren't insecure like UL Lafayette.

But what is our place? It's probably beside peer institutions ( R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity). How are we acting like something we are not?

It's honorable to feel secure in your place in higher education in the state of Louisiana, but if we felt secure in our place, we'd still be a SLII. It's funny to me that in all aspects of life, growth and aspiration are celebrated and encouraged - except for UL Lafayette.

And it's all because of the crab mentality of other schools and its supporters in this state. Feel free to spearhead the charge to rename ULM to NLU. We'll continue to strive to be "Louisiana."
