If you're dreading the CPA and have zero motivation to study, it's probably not worth it. I can't comment on big 4 because that was not my path, but industry positions are available for those who don't have CPAs, but you will lose out if someone is same level or a tad below you with a CPA.

My suggestion as someone who didn't buckle down is stop being a pussy and buckle down
Also big 4 and CPA exam are a grit and bear experience
That private accounting life is cherry

Maybe if you're in the government. Controllers are definitely a thing in private.

Misunderstood, thanks for clearing that up.

Nothing spectacular but I mean not like you are stuck to staff accountant
I have a master though
The Masters is viewed as an equivalent to a CPA certification. Roles at the senior level and above will *usually* require one or the other showing some additional level of education/training/experience/certification

My opinion is that while you are young and have the time, you just need to suck it up and get it done.

If not getting CPA - change industries/career path. You may eventually work up to a controller level for small company but it will take your full career. Otherwise will be stuck in sr acct/acct mgr territory unless you can find a niche skill (project management, etc). Can still have decent pay w/o CPA but will be limited in type of roles.
If you buckle down and go for it - many more doors will open. Your future self 10 yrs from now will thank you. You can /should still consider a career path outside of accounting though. A lot of compliance and regulatory work is being dumped on the accounting function but can have a very solid career much like any career path. If you're staying in a finance/accounting career, get it done, don't make excuses.
I agree with this. If you are not going for the CPA, the B4 won't want you around too long. You may still be able to cut your teeth at a small local firm, but you will need to be there longer.
Without a CPA, you can work your way towards a controller, C-suite position; but it will take much longer.
OP, I would recommend that you buckle down and give it a fair shot. If after 1 year, you still haven't passed any of the sections and still considering no longer pursuing the CPA; then make the decision. But, I think you will regret it if you don't make the decision after you at least tried.
Regarding another post about your focus studying, you may be studying wrong "for you". When my wife was sitting for the exam, she could sit there read the books, take practice test, make her own flash cards, more practice tests, and that worked for her. I had to read the section, go for a 2 mile run, come back and re-read the section, find something else to do for 20-30 minutes, and do practice tests.

So you have a Masters and CPA and CIA. That is far in excess of what the OP is debating spending the time on. Any one of those three will likely unlock *most* doors he'd be looking to get into in the future.
And yeah, back in the day EY was paying for people to get their masters, paying for study materials for CPA/CIA exams, paying for the exam fees and also paying completion bonus for passing. I think they started cracking down on paying for getting a masters because too many quickly left after they got it and it was too much of a headache to chase them down for repayment.

Get your CPA. I’m not an accountant but had thought of getting a CPA under the old rules (I even have enough hours of accounting under the new rules) and never did sit. I regret it now. I was never going to be a debit/credit accountant but the CPA designation means something during job searches.

Don't think about sunk cost, but think about potential cost. What other field could you switch to that you would only need 4 exams, 29 credits, and 8 mo experience? Very few. I'd stay the path, unless you are or will be truly unhappy.

No CPA
Always felt like I was able to achieve same money just excluded from some jobs

My bad. Either way a masters and certification is way more than the OP is debating.
Is Dr Sumner still around at LSU? I enjoyed that LSUCIA program.

I don’t know anything about accounting but I busted my arse from the ages of 18-25 and have basically been coasting ever since.

I am not sure they'd let me stick around for longer if I'm being honest. My B4 company really harps on the license. It seems like if you don't have it by year 2 and layoffs are around the corner you'd be on the chopping block.
Mine did too but while I was there they relaxed on it a little bit. When I started you had to have passed your exams to get promoted to senior but that's no longer the case. I'd still stay until they kick you out if you don't want to get the CPA license. Maybe you can switch to advisory
