Less likely to get shot at Coffee Call vs. New Orleans too.

Not unlikely, just less likely.

Link to any shootings at any beignet establishment in either Baton Rouge or New Orleans in history?

No one would choose a scone over a beignet or sopapilla, Earl Grey.

I think we can all agree that we would sacrifice Coffee Call and Caffay dew Mawn to get a couple of Pancho's Mexican Buffets.

it's to question why an institution like Coffee Call has stuck to their location in a sad looking strip mall off College drive, which is an area known more for chain restaurants, big box stores, and hotels.

Everytime I go there, there's like 4 people in there. So that's probably why they're still next to a nondescript building next to an Office Depot.

Also whenever they put that Walmart on College, it was a big deal. I think there was some kind of serious carrot dangling that ended up getting them a new building with a really good lease and probably low rent.

We all have opinions. Some of them are just really dumb.

Panchos.....I miss them. It was a great dining fit in post-oil bust 1980s Baton Rouge. But the area just got too high society by the late 1990s to appreciate a cheap, delicious Mexican buffet staffed with folks on work release programs.

The last one I went to was where the new Hi Nabor is now in Broadmoor shopping center. I think it closed down around 2005 or so and the shopping center was rebuilt shortly after. There was one on Nicholson across from where the Tin Roof brewery is now, but it was torn down in the 1990s I think. I vaguely remember one in Lafayette in the shopping center at Johnston/College where Twin's is now, but I could be wrong about the specifics.

I believe there was also a couple of smaller, short lived locations on Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge and around the Labarre/Airline area in Metarie.

Their website lists only 2 left - both in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Living in Baton Rouge, we go to Coffee Call a lot. The beignets are good. But me, personally, I’ve always thought Morning Call had the best beignets.

Louisiana people sure get mad when you tell them their powdered sugar donut isn't the best food on the planet.
