None.

Open it up once in awhile, or call me and I'll take care of it.

Sorry to hijack-

My 2015 jeep has only ever had premium synthetic oil since its day of purchase. Recently I got an oil light. Check the sticker on my window, only 9000 miles and 13 months since the last oil change. I had been told that 10,000 is ok with premium synthetic oil. I checked the oil, it was jet black and a quart low. This vehicle is not used for towing (at least not in the last year) it is a local grocery getter school dropper offer. I did not expect the oil to be this shitty.

What is causing the oil to deteriorate so quickly now?

I just learned the hard way about direct fuel injection on my wife’s (no pics) Audi. The fuel is injected directly into the cylinder instead of into the intake manifold. The fuel in a normal system flows around the valves and cleans them on the way in. Direct injection doesn’t and you get a ton of carbon buildup on the backside of the valves. A piece of this broke free on my wife’s car and got stuck in an exhaust valve and kept it from sealing. Lost compression in that cylinder and burned the valve. Two months and $3000 later, it’s fixed. BMWs also have this issue. My daughter (no pics) also has an Audi and I cleaned the intake out myself. Had to buy equipment for sandblasting and used about 30 lbs. of walnut shells. A major pain in the arse. All the shops around here that work in Audis have about a 2-month wait, so I did it myself. DON’T BUY AN AUDI!

BG epr. Get it in amazon. Then start using a good synthetic oil and change it every 2-3k miles until the engine starts clearing up. I would do a BG epr flush after the next 2-3 oil changes

The 'best' way is to tear the engine down and do a thorough cleaning.

Short trips are tougher on an engine/oil than anything besides sandy conditions/high temperatures.

Change annually, run it on highway trips at least monthly and all will be good.

This is what I use.
Had a 2000 Dodge Dakota that I used for work. Got to 420,000 miles using BG EPR. You can order it on Amazon and do it yourself. I used it every other oil change.
I use it for my wife's car and my car.

Oil additives aren't needed if one keeps up with oil and filter changes scheduled according to driving conditions.

I wouldn't put anything other than oil in my engine. Snake oil might remove deposits but could also deteriorate seals that won't show up for 10k miles.

Change oil twice as often as manu suggests. Manu only cares about engine life for the life of the warranty.

So my Honda is burning some oil but it has a quarter million miles on it.

If you have the Honda VCM system you can get a plung in to bypass the eco mode to quit the cylinder shut off leading to the increased oil consumption.

Look up S-VCM plug-in. $100.

Redline makes the best fuel system cleaner I have found. I used their oil also.

Sounds to me like your engine is running rich. Is there any black smoke coming out of the tailpipe? Have you changed your air filter lately?

I did this once and destroyed my engine. The wear that was there had filled with gunk and carbon.

I used a cleaner and it removed all those deposits. After that my engine couldn’t maintain oil pressure and I had to change it out.

Don’t do it.

I see all kinds of additives, but what is the best?

I h briefly heard a lifter tapping on my truck yesterday. I am hoping it is caused by some gum built up in the oil system. I went and bought some sea foam this afternoon. I will dose up the crankcase oil thos weekend and change the oil next weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Years ago we had an engine making a knocking noise. It had a regular carburetor, we sprayed Marvel Mystery Oil down the carburetor. It smoked like a train, it quieted the knock down, but you barely hear it. We pulled the head off, the inside looked polished. We found a piece of the piston ring imbedded in the top of the piston. BG products are also good.

Best "additive" to help clean carbon build-up is "BG 44k" fuel additive.
Simply pour in your fuel tank and fill up with fuel.

It will dissolve carbon build-up as well as clean the catalytic converter as it exits the exhaust system. The longer the additive remains in your fuel system, the better.

Your vehicle may experience a rough idle if you have high mileage however will smooth out under load.

You can purchase on amazon and is the best on the market imo.
