I bought one of these for my wife in 357. She shoots it fine, but hates the double action trigger pull. She has her own 43x now and likes it more, but she loves her Walther PDP-F. It fits her hands perfectly. She is much more comfortable with it versus the other ones. The recoil is much better than the 43x for her, as the 43x can be a jumpy little thing. Give the Walther PDP-F a look at a local gun store, see how she likes it.

Have you let her try a full size 9mm semi?

Mine went in thinking small and pretty. At the end of the day, it came down to the one she could actually operate. Our sales person was female and this helped a bit.

You should be able to find a range and rent something similar. My wife carries Taurus 856 (38 SPL) revolver due to the simplicity and weight. Even if a hot load +P, my wife has no problems with the 2" (let the jokes fly). I would think the 9mm would be similar, but look at the QA/QC reviews of that 905.

My wife actually prefers a full frame with a light in night stand.

If my local range reopens I will get her to try my 9mm handguns. The range was closed due to a bullet hitting a house. It may not reopen.

You might want to set a 9mm and a .38sp round next to each other. There is a significant difference in the powder charge between those two rounds. Weight and barrel length being equal, the .38sp is going to have more recoil than the 9mm.

I guess so, but I can’t imagine it’s much different. I own multiple guns of both calibers and I think it’s more a matter of the gun when it comes to the recoils of those calibers. If it’s a full size revolver then the 38 won’t kick much. Out of a snubnose then I agree that a 9mm from most semis will be softer.

You seem to have experience with guns and if your wife likes or wants a revolver then don’t get talked out of it.

Other than have her shoot some herself, my best advice is to get her the largest 357 revolver she can comfortably handle and load it with 38spl.

Sounds like this would be the perfect fit IMO. Had an air weight hammerless and it wasn't pleasant to shoot.

There’s not a burglar on earth that’ll say “hey, that bullet came from a revolver so I’ll ignore it bc revolvers only hold 5-7 rounds”

38 special was originally a black powder cartridge, hence it fires at a lot lower pressure than 9mm. Cartridge manufacturers typically drop the same powder and charge in both cases. The smaller 9mm capacity gives it higher pressure than a 38 special. That's not to say that 38 special can't be handloaded with better suited powders to give better performance within saami pressure specs.

Go semi-auto. Beretta 80X Cheetah. Get the bronze one, great looking gun. When she hates it and you need to get rid of it, I’ll give you $400 and you can go get her a shitty revolver.

My Wife (no pics) also doesn't like the air weight hammerless I bought for her.
Can barely rack the Shield EZ. Might check out the new S&W Equalizer.
She does like shooting my little SA Colt 22 but that's not ideal for CC, obviously.

The only thing we've found that my wife can operate and shoot well is a P365 with a red dot. Revolvers all had triggers that were too heavy and/or recoil was too bad.

I love these discussions. A .22 wmr and certainly a .380 will kill any human deader than shite. A miss with a hand cannon kills nothing.

It’s either (1) anything less than 9mm is useless, or (2) any fewer than 100 round capacity is useless.
