Non-Pels NBA January Thread

The Lakers are a dismal 3-7 since their IST championship and currently sit in 10th place in the West. And LeBron and Davis have been as healthy as they get: Davis sat one of those games (L) and LeBron sat two (1-1).
The Lakers problem is that, if they start D-Lo or Reeves, their defense is terrible. If they start Vanderbilt, their offense stagnates and Davis and LeBron have to do all the work.
I am sure that they will make a trade at the deadline, and the media will link them to every rumor.
But, for now, they sit in 10th place in the West. We hold the Lakers pick this season, with the option to defer it another year.I expect us to defer it, unless the Lakers pick ends up top-4. Even if Davis or LeBron were to get hurt, it would be hard for them to be bad enough to finish with a pick as high as the #8 we used to get Dyson a couple of years ago, and we might defer even if it were that high.
They would have the #13 pick if the season ended today (and they failed in the play-in). I think that a realistic hope for us is that Davis or LeBron has a minor injury that keeps one of them out for a month, and they finish with a pick slot in the 9-12 range.
That's really all I'm hoping for with the Lakers this season: that they miss the playoffs, and there's at least a chance with a few ping-pong balls to get a top-4 pick.
Up next: a five-game home stand, with the Heat, Grizzlies, Clippers, Raptors, and Suns.

They’re already being linked to Siakam
I think best case for us is they don’t make a trade, they finish with Lebron and AD playing a ton of games and minutes, winning the play in games and losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
This season’s draft sucks, I want that pick next year to be as high as possible

Why do you want them to make the playoffs?

I'd prefer the Lakers lose every game.
What you think of my odds of winning this bet at +1139
o44.5 wins for Pelicans
o53.5 wins for Bucks
u49.5 wins for Warriors
u47.5 wins for Lakers

We have so many young guys already id rather not draft anyone this year. I would trade our pick for some immediate help and defer the lakers pick. Maybe draft a big man in the 2nd round but we'll most likely use that pick to dump kira

Not only that, but this genius is hoping a Laker gets hurt..
Talk about taunting the Smoothie King graveyard demons

LeBoo shot his load for a plastic IST trophy. He knows he can’t carry a team to a real championship anymore. He had to score nearly 40 to lose to us by 20.

With their current roster, they are an easy matchup for Pelicans. (Forget the "turd circus" in Las Vegas.)
With Reaves in, their defense sux...with Reaves out, their offense sux. They are gonna need a huge "blue light special" of a trade...which they usually get...to be competitive down the stretch and in the playoffs. I think we've figured out that the best way to defense them...is to just let Herb "guard" one of their stiffs...and then let him spend all his time just roaming around & helping on their other 4 players. Sure worked great... this last game with them.

No, this isn't a Lakers thread. It's the monthly thread for non-Pels NBA stuff. I just started it with a Lakers post.

Nothing about the Mavs losing to Utah giving us the 6th seed? Minnesota loss too

They know they have a top tier 1/2 punch, but their 3-12 is legit awful.
They have no real shot to contend for a title this season barring a trade, which you know Lebron is going to start putting major public pressure on the FO to make a big move.

And why is it I feel like some team will make an inexplicably one-sided trade that will significantly help the Lakers, and we’ll all be wondering why they did it. Seems to happen every year.

From Pels Press
He’s been covering the Squadron quite a bit

Rumors are they might just let Nic Claxton stay in New Orleans

I'd do it if all they want is a lottery protected pick and fillers. It can get us below the lux for the year but also give us a much needed upgrade at the position.
Didn't think the Nets was going to re-sign him anyways.

He doesn't seem to be a fit with this Brooklyn team. According to Cleaning the Glass, he had a +5.4 points per 100 possessions on/off split last season, but it's -10.2 this season. That's a huge shift, and this year's Nets team is terrible with him on the floor.

Would be interesting to obtain Claxton right when Nance finally seems healthy. I’m not sure that is an upgrade.
