Isn’t it a no in-person contact period?

I believe coaches can still attend/watch the game but can’t make contact talk to the recruit

With that said the dead period ended on December 26 and the game was played on the 27th.

LSU didn’t send a single staff member for Sarah’s game but did go watch cambridge in Arizona last week. UNC and UConn had one assistant coach on hand in person but none of the HCs were there.

That said it’s little odd to not send at least one assistant for Strong in her most high profile game of the year and she is rumored to be making a decision in the near future.

Mulkey already said after Edwards committed to SC that if they don’t get any of their targets then they’ll go to transfer portal. I dont think they’re worried.

Yes spot on, Mulkey has been successful in the transfer portal 3 straight years. Her 1st year, she was able to get the right transfer players (Alexis) for successful winning year and tournament. 2nd year she got the best transfer players (#1 Angel) to secure our 1st NC. This year, she got #1 (Hailey) and #2 (Aneesah) in the portal.
She knows what she is doing, don't ever doubt The General. She has a proven track record, she has been around the coaching block over 24 years. Not worried at all, she will go after the top 10 players in the transfer portal to plug in where needed. She will get the top PG in the portal who is experienced and can score 3s. It is normal WBB where lots of top players transfer every year. LSU is considered one of the top desired programs to transfer.

I get that they targeted a very small group of young ladies in High School, but has anyone ever heard of a defending national champion getting NO High School commits?

With all due respect to Jada Richard…she will be a back up at best. LSU’s hope is to not lose anyone else on the current roster and land an elite player or two in the portal. You look at the 25’ class and it doesn’t look very promising. 6 of the Top 25 are already committed. They want #1 Chavez who is pretty much a lock to Texa$. Addison Deal has ties but will be a tough pull from Cali. They’re recruiting Zakiyah Johnson who is from Kentucky & a heavy Louisville lean. Recruiting Keeley Parks but she’s from Oklahoma…so there’s that. They have their work cut out in the high school ranks. Sarah Strong is still on the board. I really think they get her….Hell they have to!

Kim made her living at Baylor recruiting Texas, Florida, Georgia area's pretty hard and got most of her high end talent there while occasionally scooping into Louisiana when the talent was there (Kalani Brown, Moon Ursin). So that will probably need to be a big area of focus for LSU especially being in the Southern regions out of HS while plucking national talent out of the portal.

LSU had a very very very small recruiting list this cycle and a couple of those were long shots to come here in the first place so they didn't have any room for error.

But yes, retention of someone like Reese and the roster is important though if they don't land strong. Mulkey has done exceptionally well in the portal but even she would tell you long term she doesn't want to be completely reliant on the portal because there is no guarantee who will be available at positions of needs and how interested some would be coming here. Its going to vary so much from year to year.

One off class isn't going to kill LSU as the core is still really good the next couple years but that does put much more pressure to deliver for the 2025 class.

Sarah Strong is still on the table. Landing her changes a lot, hopefully they figure that one out. Thats a program changing player

Kim Mulkey doesn’t guarantee starter positions or playing time. Jaloni wanted to start day one and play with her sister, can’t recruit against that. Sarah wants an easier path to playing time next year which today doesn’t seem likely but anything can happen by this time next year. So I think LSU feels like she’ll go else where. They are still recruiting high school players and will probably sign 1 or 2 more but they will hit the transfer portal hard if need be.

Strong is the last HS prospect on the table LSU is recruiting for 2024.

The word on the street is Strong's parents are in favor of LSU of her remaining schools recently. Idk about starting but Kim would 100% give Strong major minutes year one, she is that good. Kim hasn't been shy playing some of her freshmen the last two years between Flaujae and Sa'Myah, and now Mikaylah and ADR. If you're good, you're going to get minutes.

Strong is down to a few schools (not public) and LSU is one of them

I really thought Velez would be a sleeper in this class. She hasn’t looked comfortable in any way. That could change. But gotta find an elite PG. You have your star in Mikaylah..put some really good pieces around her and I think they are still championship contenders.

In the limited minutes that she's gotten, Velez looks fine. She's got great potential. Losing Cambridge sucks but, we'll be fine if Velez takes over the point in the future. I'm more concerned with the post than the guards, for this next class.........................assuming we DON'T get Strong.
