Evening,
I have a builder grade 32x79" hollow core door that I have purchased a replacement for. The replacement is an antique oak door with a large window. It is definitely heavier. A neighbor suggested I replace the door frame. Is this necessary? Could I ditch the 1/2" screws and use 2-3" screws into the door frame instead?
Thanks yall.

The existing jamb is probably sufficient, if it’s not a split-jamb. Is this an exterior door, or is it for a pantry or something?
Yes, I would use a couple of 3” screws in every hinge, to be able to reach the jack stud behind the jamb. Should be fine.

The only thing you may need is another hinge or two.

you may have to replace the frame anyway depending on hinge location on the new door vs the old one

If the door frame is butted up against a stud, you'll be fine. If not, I'd pull the trim off the hinge side and add a board planed to tightly fit between the frame and stud as a reinforcement. Use 3 1/2 torx screws too.
