’ve found that younger workers (25-35) are more likely to take a Thursday/Friday off here and there through out the year and maybe one week long stint during the spring or summer time. Without fail this sends the older workers (45-60) into orbit. You’ll start to hear all sorts of passive aggressive comments like “must be nice” or “does he/she ever work”.

100% exactly how it goes down where I work. I get 4 weeks. I usually do one week long Caribbean/Central American beach or fishing vacation then a bunch of long weekends to offshore fish/hunt/saints road trips/LSU road trips. It drives the old people fricking crazy.

I don't get it. Are long weekends a Gen X/Millennial invention or something? can't be

It really doesn’t, we just like to bitch and moan. You’ll be here one day, probably.

At 40 I’m basically just in the Millennial generation (the Xenial term is definitely very real for people my age) and this is very similar to what I do.

My job splits time off into Vacation, Paid Time Off and Sick/Care. I get 4 weeks of Vacation, 1 week of PTO and 8 days of Sick/Care. It’s dumb but it has its purpose. Vacation can be rolled over. PTO is use it or lose it. It basically forces everyone to use at least 1 week a year.

I take 1 week off either late summer (August) or fall (September/October) for a big trip. I typically will take 3 days off for a mountain/
camping/hiking trip in May or June. I typically take 2 days off in the fall or just before Christmas to go to a Saints game/hang out in NOLA. The remaining 2-3 weeks I just use for long weekends throughout the year.

With my job Mondays are much busier than Fridays so I typically take Monday’s off for the long weekend or sometimes Monday-Tuesday.

It’s also nice not having kids so I’m not tied to any type of school schedule and can travel during cheaper times.
