Coen Echols potential

Echols plays center or guard. Some OT as well. He is a mauler that finishes his blocks. He's a little shorter, but I think his lower center of gravity gives him good leverage.
Senior highlights
Scouting report
I think he could compete early for a starting spot at C or G and win a spot on the 25' OL.

quote:
Versatile high school offensive lineman with experience at tackle and center. Could be capable of playing just about anywhere along the offensive front in college. Not the tallest O-lineman, but in the 6-3.5 range with impressive length (about +6) relative to height. Plays with leverage and power. Explodes off the ball and flashes heavy-handed engagement. Regularly looks for extra work. Displays above average body control and ease of movement. Occasionally gets out over his feet to compromise that balance a bit. Plays with a nasty field demeanor that manifests in finishing conviction. Not a heavy-footed player but still has room to improve quick-footedness and agility. Owns some strong multi-sport data, including a 51-5 shot put that shows in sudden power on the field. Given snapping experience, could represent an elite center prospect. Bends well in pass protection regardless of alignment and plays with competency at multiple positions. Projects as a high-major lineman with the potential to become an NFL Draft prospect on the interior O-line.

Chester is your heir apparent at center.

I know that's the plan. My only concern is that Chester played in GA class A private against kids significantly smaller and less talented. He also plays high from watching his film. Both have starting potential though and play nasty.

Didn’t Chester get some reps this season and looked fine for the most part? I can’t recall who it was against.

IDK. He might have and I know the staff is high on him. I like both and if we get Echols I can see both finding a spot on the OL.

I just looked at his highlights for the first time...WOW!! He is one nasty blocker and drives his opponent further down the field on running plays than any other LSU signee. He and Weston are essentially rated the same by the services. I like Weston fine but I definitely put Echols above Weston. I would rate Echols a 5*...Weston a solid 4*. One caveat...Echols highlights are SR ones. Weston's video I've seen is of his JR season. I will say that Weston does more holding also although I love his legal cut blocks. He even snuck in a horse collar on one of his holds.

He's supposed to announce tomorrow and every CB on On3 and 247 the last 2 days has him going to LSU.

His videos remind of Trai Turner. He plays mean and finishes.

Chester played in the Missouri game after Turner was screwing up a bit.

I don't think that was Turner. I believe he got hurt. The one who couldn't snap the ball was Martinez who came in for Turner. I liked Martinez (in the portal) but he couldn't snap the ball well to save his life against Mizzou.

This is correct. Martinez had looked good as the backup C vs UAB and in the bowl game last year, but he flat lost his spot in that Mizzou game. Kelly pulled him and let him have it on the sideline. The next time he went in a game it was at Guard.
Mizzou has a good defense and Chester looked the part for a freshman pressed into action. He seems to have a bright future.
