Not doubling Ja, why?

It’s like Willie wanted to embarrass Herb on that last play.
But also, all game, double him. Every time. Especially when Jose is out there. He can not guard Ja.

Ja got to the rim everytime and Willie just kept throwing the same defense. Just double him, make anyone else take game winning shot.

Pels hate doubling the other team's best player in crunch time

It’s insane
I can live with Bane hitting a 3 to win

Remember when we’d never double Jokic, Embiid, Lebron, whoever whenever they had the ball in their hands

Hence all the blown leads.

Surely blowing a 19 point lead and losing on an embarrassing defensive effort play is enough to make Willie change his ways
I doubt it though

I’ve said this in a couple other threads, so apologies for being redundant. But Memphis, the possession before said I’m not going to let the Pelicans best player beat us and they doubled BI and made him get rid of the ball. We got a good CJ look and wow, it was ugly. Then Memphis calls timeout and Wiilie, having just watched Memphis do the correct and obvious thing, decides I’m going to let Ja go one on one even though Herb couldn’t check him and if he got near him it was a foul. It’s just absolutely piss poor coaching. Plain and simple.

Willie is overconfident in Herb's on ball defense while ignoring that Morant was cooking Herb in the 4th.

Ja went right most of the night, Herb over played it and no help.

Trusting the player instead of how the game is actually going and it cost him a win.

It’s maddening
Anyone who watched more than 10 min of that game knew that he was gonna beat us if we left Herb on an island with him
Horrible decision and yes garbage help side defense too

All elite offensive players have an advantage one-on-one. So it is kind inexcusable to not double.

Whole lotta things done poorly by Pels' defense on Ja's last shot. I thought everybody EXCEPT BI, who, at least managed to just stand in the corner with JJJ...and probably Herb, who did all he could...made amazingly poor decisions on the play. Looking at a replay...I'd say Naji was the absolute worst of the group.

This has been bothering me for two days. I'm not a coach but I do have enough common sense to know that Ja Morant had to be doubled at half court or flat out denied the ball. They let that man keep getting to the rim.

I assume we had two wing "pinchers" that were suppose to drop back in on both sides to prevent Ja's spin. They were both "late"...not by much, but by enough.
I also especially noticed Naji "watching the paint dry" and letting Aldama just walk right by him from the dunker spot...for the easy putback...if Ja had happened to miss the shot. Not much way Grizz were NOT gonna get a basket, one way or the other, on that play.
