Pre-prepared Gumbo Question

Wife and I aren’t big cooks, so we usually buy the prepared Richards gumbo, get the head start, and then doctor it up with more chicken sausage and other stuff.

Anyway, Richards has usually been the wife’s “go to”, but she hasn’t been able to find it anywhere in BR the last month. The last two weeks, I have been to multiple Rouses, multiple Albertsons, Calandros and Mathernes and have found ONE Folses Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. While the stores have the seafood gumbo, and crawfish bisque, but seems like no one has any chicken and sausage gumbo. And if they have it, it’s Folses.

Anyone know why there is essentially no chicken and sausage gumbo?

Or why no one has Richards?

I think you’d be much happier with just buying some from a restaurant or store if you can’t find the Richards brand.

I'm pretty sure Don Bergeron keeps it in the prepared foods in his market. I haven't had it, but I would think it would be good and better than Richards.

Hebert's Specialty Meats in Geismer has it all the time. We pick it up for Mom sometimes in the hot weather months when her supply gets low.

You could order it from a restaurant as someone else suggested.

Are you familiar with the Cajun Power product line? They offer most every classic Cajun & Creole dish in jarred "starter" kits including C&S gumbo.

I don't live in LA so I'm not sure if it is sold in stores. I order it online from their website.

How much time are you spending "doctoring up" a pre made gumbo? Have you thought about just using jarred roux (follow directions on label for amount) with chicken broth and "doctoring up" that with chicken, sausage, and other stuff? You may be surprised that it may not be much more effort than you are already spending, if any. You can even cheat and just throw a precooked rotisserie chicken in and it will likely be better than what you are getting from a frozen richard's gumbo.
