And I don’t think they were recruited. I think there was an appeal and visibility to playing with Arch that ED white or whereever didn’t offer. the football team may have outliers like AJ Johnson but in general is just a well coached operation. The basketball thing is a joke on the other hand and should be fun to watch unravel.
Doesn’t matter if they were recruited to the extent Randy recruits. They switched schools for athletics and didn’t sit out a year. That’s illegal. Maybe not AS illegal as what basketball is doing, but illegal is illegal.
And yes, football is well coached and they work with current students unlike basketball who pushed their current students to the side for Randy’s recruits. But they have plenty of “outliers” like AJ. Or even kids like Kai Donaldson who were recruited by Randy but still played football.
Bottom line, recruiting is recruiting, illegal players are illegal players. Defending football by saying they only have a few illegal players is what’s wrong with the system.

I’m not defending them, i think it’s laughable how much the school sold their soul to sponsor a corrupt AAU team. But the football team isn’t close to comparable to the basketball racket. But while we’re on football, the AJ Johnson thing was a bad look and backfired spectacularly.

Private schools can’t recruit?

Actually saw Randy in MSY this morning. Guess he now has some time in his hands and was getting away for a bit

Yeah, I know. I’m just saying it was a part of it. It was in chs best interest to just accept and move on. I think it’s worked out and no one even cares any more about it.
actually for Bonine it was horrible timing because he had spent two years cultivating groups of 4a and 5a principals to vote to get back together - The brother martin forfeits and the CHS situation may have garnered just enough support for the vote to fail

So are the Bordelon brothers, who still live in Thibodeaux.

Great defense. I have no idea who those kids are or where they came from. May work with the LHSAA.

Agree. And yes, the AJ situation was absurd. They were looking to become The Blind Side 2, and ended up housing a criminal.

I knew something was up when Josh Preston was there every game taking pics and video from different states

Correct. Now they are eligible. Point is they weren’t eligible their first year and Newman should have required them to sit out as the rules require but they didn’t.

Then they didn't want to know. Worst kept secret in New Orleans.

Why the heck does Newman care so much about basketball? Play with your actual students, not with kids from AAU.

But then how would they possibly get Bronny’s Sierra Canyon team to play down here?
It’s a talking point. Do LHSAA rules and Louisiana culture impede the development of “national” high school athletic programs? Is it hurting our kids in comparison to other states? It seems like most of the “national” programs popping up in LA have been dinged one way or another

Perhaps I’m in the minority here, but who honestly cares. If a highschool wants to put athletics on pedestal to the point they are plugging in recruits, that’s a decision a school can make.
If parents want to move their 14/15/16/17 year old kids around for sports, it’s just another in a long line of parenting values I disagree with but who actually cares.
That sports played by 14 year olds is now more heavily regulated than college sports seems kind of stupid to me.

You seriously can’t believe that, can you? You seem like a fairly well put together person.
You don’t think that some admin at Newman looked at their team and thought “hmmmm, something doesn’t look right” ?

I sort of kind of want to agree with you, but at some point, you have to have a level playing field for everyone…
If I’m being honest, when I hear schools like Zachary, Curtis, WM & Evangel (back in the day) brag about winning football titles, I just kind of roll my eyes because they’re supposed to.. they’re not on even playing fields like the majority of the other schools
They really need to police the shite better, and if they’re going to turn a blind eye to illegal players playing at new schools, then those schools need to have their own divisions or classes

What a joke. Of course they knew. Students parents coaches and administrators. The school fills out paperwork, approves scholarships, and signs off on every athlete. How could they possibly not know? No one hid it.
