"Murder plummeted in the United States in 2023, likely at one of the fastest rates of decline ever recorded," AH Datalytics co-founder Jeff Asher wrote in his Substack newsletter. "The quarterly data in particular suggests 2023 featured one of the lowest rates of violent crime in the United States in more than 50 years."
Probably has nothing to do with the record numbers of guns purchased by Americans these past few years. No, it couldn't be!! Too bad the blue states just can not seem to understand the more guns less crime truths.
More Guns LESS Crime!!

Likely not.
The murder rate was going down pretty consistently for about 30 years until 2020, the Summer of Love, and Covid fricked everything up.
It's only natural that as that whole era has subsided, we return back to normal (falling violent crime rates)

set another record for homicides in Memphis in mid November.

I’d rather we see a drop in crime because we’ve become better people and society. Something like Japan where tradition and respect still play a role. Not because a criminal is worried they might get shot while committing a crime as you’re suggesting. That just means that people are still assholes and don’t value your humanity.

downvote. Murder rate going down is bad because a democrat is president

Has been happening since the hell that was the 80s and 90s

The correlation is not favorable.

lets do fentanyl deaths now.

Japan with their demographics is certainly an outlier!!

I wouldn’t argue that the rates haven’t dropped. I’m speaking ideally here: I just want the reasons to be lifestyle/change of heart reasons rather than “I might get my arse killed if I attack granny and take her purse”. That’s a change driven out of fear rather than people being something better than they were. That’s an unhealthy society to me and not something worth celebrating even if the outcome is less crime.
The 3 Strikes law was born here in Fresno. A teenage girl was murdered by a repeat offender and her father started his crusade. It paid dividends with violent criminals being locked up and the crime rate dropping. But dammit, I hate the fact that people fall into criminal lifestyles when there is so much more they could do in a positive way. I know, it isn’t realistic, but it kills me to see so much potential wasted and lives destroyed.

What you want is (was?) literally happening.
The change from the shitty 80s/90s was more than just violent crime. Most social pathologies were in decline through the Trump admin. Again, 2020 threw a wrench into things, but it looks like we're back on track.

Correct
Hopefully the substance abuse problem can improve as well

lol. I’ve been working on getting Mrs Figgy to move there for years now. She’s still against it but that place is about as safe as you can find.
When I look at crime I don’t automatically correlate it to race. I look at their economic conditions. Poor people of all stripes are the ones committing the overwhelming majority of crime anywhere and everywhere across the US. We all know that black men are committing more crime than they should. But within that how many of them are college educated, married with kids or attend church etc..? That’ll be a rarity. It’s the poor with no education or family structure other than a gang. Poor people are the problem here and I don’t know how you fix it other than individuals doing the right things. The War on Poverty is even less successful than the War on Drugs.

I do know it is very hard to relocate to Japan. How does Japan manage their criminality? Are criminals punished or immediately released back on to the streets?
Certainly the criminal does not commit seppuku!

You know what else is difficult in Japan? Acquiring a fricking gun.

Police lie to make crimes into non-crimes
And culture/demographics. Japan doesn't have an underclass as numerous as our underclass.

How regulated is their business environment? Does a person have to pay the state thousands of dollars, insurance companies thousands of dollars, as well as additional permits and lincensing fees to go into business?
Does Japan fund a military? I do know they love killing dolphins!!!
