The primary issues that populism means no principles. No principles is a scary proposition and leads to irrational mob mentality from all sides. To put it another way we want people thinking about elections and politics and not feeling things about elections and politics. Logic over emotion. The individual over the mob

It depends on the political movement that populism represents. Populism that led to Brexit in England was good in my estimation. Populism that leads to fairer trade, less wars and secure borders is good too.
