IDK, he was only in a few episodes. They may only have counted wives that made at least one appearance. I think the wife of Otis did show up in one scene but not Emmit's.
Even the Darling family showed up in force with dad, sons and daughters but no wife.
Although Andy was not dating Helen Crump on the show they were having an affair off screen but never got married.

Maybe it was Mayberry R.F.D.

Anyways... all of the people are widowers... personally, I think they had a serial killer on the loose in Mayberry.

Andy and Helen left Mayberry after getting married in the 1st episode of Mayberry RFD and had a kid in the 1st episode of the 2nd season
