In 1990, Swervedriver was the band we deserved, not the band we needed

My Bloody Valentine would like a word.
Swervedriver were good enough, they just never did hit my sweet spot.

I never understood why Swervedriver has come to be associated with shoegaze because I originally associated dreampoppy, ethereal bands like My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, etc with that subgenre back in the day. It seems like the definition of shoegaze has now expanded to include bands that would have been referred to as “postpunk” during the ‘90s.

They were part of the scene -they played the same clubs, were on the same labels and hung out with the likes of Ride, Lush, Slowdive, Moose etc.
I never really got into them, ought to give them a listen. I was really in to My Bloody Valentine and Lush.

They were always associated with shoegaze...
Solid band.. saw em at Tips (I think) early 90s. Wanted to see them a couple of years ago when they came through, but totally forgot..

Raise is excellent. The two recent albums are not bad either.

I'd take multiples ahead of them like, MBV, Slowdive, Lush and Catherine wheel.

Catherine Wheel was the band we needed but didn’t deserve.

I recently (August) picked up the Ferment and Chrome reissues on vinyl... I had kind of forgot the big difference in sound between the two records..

Such a great album. "Crank" is a huge part of my growing up in the '90s.

I have never grown tired of “Black Metallic.”

Saw them open for Hum at the Varsity in Baton Rouge. An amazing show I’ll never forget.

Wish I could’ve been there.
