I have a couple of Kershaws. Understand now, that if you're in an office environment and you take it out of your pocket to open up a UPS box, someone's likely to scream "SWITCHBLADE!"

Assisted open. Discontinued Kershaw knives

Victorinox Swiss Army knife. Very sharp and easy to maintain and reasonably priced.

Benchmade are nice knives that last and make nice gifts. If I were buying a gift, if would be a Benchmade Mini Griptillian or Mini Bugout. I believe you can have them customized on the Benchmade website.

Hinderer.

Seriously though, Kershaw makes a respectable US made knife under $150. Buck as well. A few Benchmades that price. A few Spyderco as well.

If you don't care where it's made, there are hundreds of nice models under $200. Even titanium with quality blade steels.

Get a Chris reeve small sebenza if you don’t mind paying for nice things.

A Benchmade bugout is nice and what I carry.
If you want to go old school and classic a case sodbuster

If he spends a lot of time outdoors, consider a spyderco salt series. Supposed to be totally rust proof.

SOG makes some great quick easy opening kind. Light and tough.

I've got a SOG Micron II with the pointed tip. I love my SOG better than any pocket knife I've ever owned. They carry nice and light, and are easy to sharpen and hold their edge well.

Actually, I bought 10 of them off eBay not too long ago. My boy is notorious for borrowing my pocket knives and they sometimes go missing. After buying my first SOG about five or so years ago, it's all I carry anymore.

I lost my trident and quickly replaced it but later found it. And now I see that have some new offerings so may need to lose and find these too.

I've carried a Kershaw daily for last few years. Before that it was a Hen and Rooster brand. I buy my dad Case XX for Christmas.
