At what point did knee pads become unnecessary in football?

Cause they’re uncomfortable as hell. We used to wear them pregame and slide them off as soon as we get back in the locker room

I’d go buy the youth knee and thigh pads and then would cut the knee ones in half.

A knee pad isn’t a stopping any injury to the knee area.

A knee pad won't prevent any Willis McGahee or Marshawn Lattimore type of injuries anyway.

Knee pads are worthless. Thigh pads only matter if there's repetitive injury and there's a prospect of myositis ossificans. JMO

The two areas that seem concerning to me are players not putting in the mouthpiece and so many guys with a lot of hair and it makes it so the helmet doesn't fit properly.

Well if it parts of the uniform and equipment required to play, they should all be required to use it. If not don’t let them play,

I can’t believe they let football players play without a mouthpiece
