If Alabama beats UGA, there’s no way possible for Oregon to make the playoff ahead of Bama

Absolutely no way to even debate it(Oregon and Texas also win in this scenario). There’s no reason for it NOW. But,

Both 12-1 conference champs.

Alabama would have the best W of the 2.
Alabama would have the better loss(playoff Texas vs overrated Washington).
Alabama would have wins over 5, 11, 13, 21
Oregon would have wins over ~8 and 20
Alabama would have the harder SOS.

What am I missing?

Their current ranking. Washington's too, it seems.

That this is the worst Alabama team in years and they scraped by a bunch of shite teams. But if they do beat UGA and look good doing it, they will get in.

Whatcha mean?

And yes, I know the current rankings are insane. But there would be too much evidence to ignore if Alabama beats Georgia. These resumes wouldn’t even compare.

Eye test

Would Oregon have to beat Auburn on a Hail Mary?

Alabamas loss was by large margin to team with a loss vs Oregon on a last second FG to an undefeated team

Their resumes don’t compare now. Yet, Oregon is THREE spots ahead of bama

Oregon beating 3 and bama beating 1 doesn’t change things that much.

Yes. This seems a bit silly to me.

It should.

It also gives Alabama the better loss. And beating Georgia in Georgia >>>>>>>>> beating this Washington team who even the committee was iffy on most of the season.

Oregon is 5th because the committee has already decided that the Pac-12 champ is in no matter who it is.

They've been the highest ranked one-loss team from the start. They're not getting jumped for beating the committee's third ranked and undefeated team.

They don't compare now. Ohio State, Texas, and Alabama all have better resumes at this point than Oregon does.

Yes, this seems silly to me. What’s the argument for it?

For……reasons.

I think the reasons that the committee is using to put Oregon over Alabama now would be in Alabama’s favor if Alabama beats Georgia.

For some reason nobody in this thread except you is capable of discussing it.

I'd have them at 7 or 8.

Ask the committee. I think they said something along the lines of "they're playing great football right now."

Maybe. I'm sure they'd have no problem going up there and talking about "great football, knocked off the back to back champs, toughest conference" or whatever else they need to make up to stick the four teams they want in the playoff.

Seems like they're doing what they're doing every year and hoping it'll work itself out this weekend.

These folks hate Bama almost as much as they hate Ohio State.
