It’s that time of the year. 74 years old Tiger fan
It's almost a month late for an anniversary, but it is always great to relive that play. I was student at LSU along with Cannon at the time. Was married with a 10 month old son.
My mom and dad came down for the day and we all went to the game, but could not sit in our usual student section seats because of mom/dad with us.
Bought separate tickets and all sat in north end zone - directly in line with his south/north run.
The stadium went wild - a drunk came tumbling down the aisle we were sitting next to and got up seemingly uninjured - ran right back to the top.
Indeed, Ol Miss punted on 3rd down to avoid a possible problem on 4th.
After the Cannon TD, they marched right down the field to get within our 5 yard line. 4 plays and they could not make it.
Cannon was in on the last play stopping runner inside the one yd line.
Unbelievable excitement prevailed.

My high school principal was one of the defenders he juked.
The man liked to point out the 21-0 drumming in the bowl game at their hands, be he acknowledged what a tremendous play that was and it gave LSU national attention as that was one of the first CFB highlight reels, and was played in movie theaters, nationally, during the “news” that ran before the film.

There was a large painting of that stop in the old Belmont Hotel, which is where most visiting teams stayed back in the day.
