(2) Deliberately Altered Ball Must Not Be Played. A player must not make a stroke at a ball whose performance characteristics have been deliberately altered, such as by scuffing or heating the ball or by applying any substance (other than in cleaning it).

It looks like its a violation. Based on this rule, wrapping them in a towel, like I do, may be a violation.

Would keeping a ball in your pocket be a violation?

Wrapping a ball in a towel, although only effective for maybe one stroke, wouldn’t violate this because it’s not heating the ball but rather an attempt to maintain the temp the ball was at when inside. You didn’t put it in an oven and then hold under a heat lamp in your cart lol
