Missed out on a great season for a 12 team playoff this year

Looking at the rankings, there would be a lot of very good matchups for the 1st/2nd round of the playoffs
If the season ended today, it might look something like this, with the higher seeded teams getting home games for the first round…
5 Oregon
12 Oklahoma
Winner would face #4 FSU
6 Ohio St
11 Ole Miss
Winner would face #3 Washington
7 Texas
10 Penn St
Winner would face #2 Michigan
8 Bama
9 Mizzou
Winner would face #1 UGA
I can’t wait until they change the format, there’s gonna be so much good football to end the year
Which matchups would y’all want to see most?

Agreed. This was the best year in recent memory for one.

Maybe you would have had that playoff this season if not for the petty Pac 12 and Big 10 along with the Rose Bowl, one of which will cease to exist.
Their delay tactics prevented it from happening sooner.

This year would’ve been the best year for it in recent memory. I’m not sure how that justifies completely nuking from orbit 100+ years of history but I suppose I’m in the minority.

12 Oklahoma
Wouldn't this be the highest ranked G5 Champion?

Is the format next year not going to reset the bracket after each round so the lowest and highest remaining seeds play each round?
For example, if #12 Oklahoma were to beat #5 Oregon….in a fixed bracket they’d still play #4 FSU instead of #12 playing #1 UGA

I think so. Tulane would be #12.

No, there is no reseeding after round 1 per the NCAAs website. I looked at that before posting

I love the playoff but neutral sites should not start until the semifinals.

Should be 8 teams with 4 home games on NYD and NYE at the top 4 ranked home fields.
Think how amazing those atmospheres would be.
Then you have 4 teams left and go with the current format for semis and final.

I agree with you here John

Hello, where is the Green Wave?!

I think technically the wording is Top 6 conference champions. So unless they change it, 2 Gof5 champions are getting in.

Huh?

He’s proposing an 8 team playoff, I’m not so much against the 12 team playoff even though I think it’s too much too, as I am against the ridiculousness of stuff like Stanford playing in the ACC.

Are you confused by my proposition for an 8 team playoff with the 4 first round games at home fields on NYE and NYD? Then the 4 remaining teams play in the current format of rotating bowls for the semis in January and a rotating location for the Final?
I don't feel like what I wrote was complicated, but you are Kosmo, I know you get confused a lot.

And so much less meaningful football during the season.
Sorry, but we had an average of 4-5 meaningful games per week during the regular season, going back to LSU-Florida State in week 1. Texas-Alabama meant something. So did Oklahoma-Texas.
Notre Dame-Ohio State, Ohio State-Michigan, LSU-Alabama and so forth.
We have five conference championship games this week where undefeated UGA, FSU, Michigan and Washington plus 1-loss Texas are done if they lose. Under a 12 team playoff, those teams would simply suffer a lower seed in the playoffs.
We haven’t made college football “better”. We’ve added an extra two weeks of four games each that greatly cut back on the significance of the regular season.

There will be Byes that are still massively important to earn for the top 4 teams.
And you can also look at like it's ADDING to the meaningful games because a whole bunch of teams will still be alive the last 3-4 weeks of the season, as opposed to 5-6 teams. With 25+ teams still having a shot at the playoff and 5-6 having a shot at a first round bye, that is intriguing.
