Ventless gas logs

I have "ventless" and don't like it. It uses propane and the smell gives me a headache. Natural gas might be less smelly if you have that option.

We have them. 2 sets. They are natural gas.

Only smell we get is when you start them up the 1st time of the year.

The ones we have are a bit of a pain in that the thermocouple will only last a couple of years it seems. So, have to work on the
fairly often.

Same. The one in the center of our downstairs can heat the entire house in the dead of winter with snow outside. We put concrete balls in it for a modern look. I actually love it. Has a remote control. Pretty badass.

Vent free logs are great. True heat to the home, instead of all the heat going up the chimney

We got some Ventless gas logs to replace a set of Vented natural gas logs that were leaking gas.

These new ventless logs throw out so much heat that we can't use them more than a minute or they are going to melt/burn the paint on the mantel above.

I'm going to have to install a fireplace heat shield if I can find one that fits our fireplace, or get a metal worker to custom make a fireplace heat shield and install it before we can really use our fireplace. Even then we are going to need to let that part of our house get cold. If it still heats too much, we'll have to revert back to a vented set of gas logs.

I had no idea that ventless natural gas fireplaces put out so much heat.

whether wood or gas any flame still needs combustion air to burn. If there’s no flue then combustion air is coming from your indoor air. So don’t use these ventless logs in a small or confined area

Same situation at our house.

Previous homeowners put one in downstairs and have to crack a window open even when it’s freezing outside because it heats the room up so quickly.

They also ran electric and mount above it for a TV. Didn’t think anything about it but the fireplace puts out so much heat upward the fireplace overheats the TV which I never would have thought about. Googled it and it seems to be a common issue and they do make a metal heat shield for mantles.

As for now, ours is off almost all the time now

Our Vent free logs are great. Lots of heat for the home, instead of all the heat going up the chimney. I bought the lower BTU log set. Just so I can leave it on longer without overheating the home.

I have a ventless gas log FP. It puts out good heat and has a slight smell because you are burning natural gas unvented (like a gas stove).

It is fine but I fought to not have the damned thing when we built. Not a fan of fireplaces in S Louisiana in general.
