Bama and Turner had no way of knowing that Campbell was going to whiff on the block so no "hit" was put out by Bama on Daniels - that being said, if the goal with the targeting penalty is to remove the vicious hits that will result in injury, there is absolutely no argument to be made that the hit on Daniels was targeting and both the officials and the SEC need to admit it because every targeting call is now going to be compared to that no call

While I agree with the rest of your post, this bit needs some perspective:

Luck, in many respects, is defined as what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Regardless of whether or not Saban put a "hit" out on Jayden, it's pretty obvious that he wasn't interested in coaching his dirtiest player to abide by the rules.

So, when Turner got "lucky" and Campbell whiffed on the block, the thug took the opportunity to do what he's been prepared to do since the first game of last year: annihilate the opposing QB by any means necessary.

L'il Nicky may not have specifically ordered a "hit", but I have no doubt that Turner knew Saban wouldn't look cross-eyed at him if Daniels was carted off the field in a neck brace.

Just my opinion.
