Kelly was 4-11 vs top 10 in 12 seasons at Notre Dame.

Brian Kelly is currently 2-4 at lsu vs top 10 teams.

Hard to be a Top 10 team if you can’t beat a Top 10 team

In Kelly's defense, ND was always vastly overrated, and going 4-11 was probably pretty good.

No matter the sport or the level of competition, 4-11 is never "pretty good".

He started out with barely a top 25 roster. Record kind of makes sense.

So he's way ahead of schedule. Almost halfway to his record at ND in two seasons at LSU.

Edit: For transparency, one of those two "Top 10" wins was an 8-5 Ole Miss last year.

Using 2022 final rankings and current rankings for 2023:

FSU - L
Tennessee - L
Bama - W
UGA - L
FSU - L
Ole Miss - L
Bama - L

Kelly also has more OOC regular season losses than Miles did in his tenure.

Leslie took over a Saban built roster; Kelly took over an O built roster. huge difference plus Louisiana recruits were much better at that time.

Also, Miles didn't start off recruiting against Saban or Kirby. Kelly had to start of way behind Saban on the recruiting trail.

BK took over a team that had just gone 11-11 and 8-10 in the SEC. The roster was cut in half and the program was in decline.

Miles took over a loaded program that had recently won a NC. They were 22-4 the last two years and 13-3 in conference play. The roster was overflowing.

Comparing Miles versus Kelly is ridiculous. The two situations were night and day.

ETA: Saban had the toughest rebuild. LSU wasn’t LSU when he came to LSU and we had just gone 6-15 overall and 2-13 in conference. The roster was fairly well stocked, but Saban took over in the worst situation.

Worst situation Saban
Next Kelly
Easiest by far Miles

If you’re going to remove ole miss due to its final ranking since we won then you have to remove Florida State last year as a top 10 loss. They finished #13.

Of those 6 how many were either more talented or more experienced than what he inherited?

That record is a genuine year 5 problem, but it’s simply not a year 2 one

We have yet to recover defensively from the O era. We haven’t exactly had it easy with the injuries and everything as well.
