Seems wierd for a one year rental...I know they figure it gives them the inside track to resign him.

Weird move to me also esp considering that 2nd round pick is gonna be pretty high. Do they actually think they have a shot at WC?

they are going to resign him, obviously. Just like the reason they had the Panthers include DJ Moore in the trade.

It's actually easy. The Bears have lots of cap room but have a hard time getting guys to come in FA. This gives them the chance to use up some of the cap they always sit on without having to bid against other teams.

But they have a ton of cap room to chase him in offseason. Also, giving up a top 40 pick seems dumb.

Because inside track usually works. You're trading to sign him now.

They're gonna throw 4/100 and walk away winners.

Or they could have used that top 40 pick on a team devoid of talent and overpaid him in free agency or another of the other high priced ends like Young or Hunter.

GM is an idiot. They are anything but winners.

They very well have 2 top 5 picks in a QB happy draft. Or at least one and trade the other 1st for more assets. There's at least 4 legitimate 1st round QBs this upcoming draft.

Now I agree, I don't like the trade for a team that is building like you said. Last year was apparent with their stupid trade for claypool, but there's not many edge rushers in free agency and alot of teams with money. Hell, they could very well just tag him and work something out, they control it now instead of potentially losing him elsewhere.

There’s quite a few good to elite defensive ends that will hit the market.
Sweat, Young, Hunter, Barnett, Graham, Davenport.

You can’t make that trade for a very high 2nd. The dumass gm didn’t lean his lesson with Claypool last year.

The thing about Claypool to me was anytime the Steelers are letting such a young player go like that has to be at the biggest red flag

You don't hardly ever see that with them

Young

injury prone, not as good as sweat. also 49ers just traded for him.

quote:

Hunter

He is about to get PAID, more than 25mil.

quote:

Barnett

That's 100% name recognition from being a former 1st rounder. He is not good.

quote:

Graham

The philly lifer who's 36, yeah okay.

Davenport

pissing away money at this point

You and 10 other teams are about to bid the frick for him if you didn't get him now. Hunter is going to get paid an asston of money too, he's also 2 years older, so you went for who you think is gonna stay or can get a deal.

even more weird considering they don't play with the lead all that much where he can have more opportunities to rush the passer.

the Bears have been good stopping the run but way worse stopping the pass. Sounds like mismanagement to me as far not really considering the flow of how their games tend to go.

irresponsible move.

And you think they are getting a discount on Sweat because they traded for him? They will have to pay a huge contract or franchise him. And then lost what should be a good cost controlled player for 4 years on top of that.

Think of all the top talent that just went early 2nd this year. Branch, Mayer, laPorta, Levis.

All for an end that has yet to get 10 sacks playing with 3 other first rounders on the line. Two very good interior lineman at that.

Of course they're not going to get him for a discount. But a player & team are more likely to work on a deal together if said player is on a team already, esp if they're tagged.

Its stupid, but I can understand the premise behind it because they want to have surefire veterans for a young team. They have nobody on that DL aside from Ngakoue

Who is also a free agent and will be looking for a big deal when he hits free agency again.

Don't you think a pass rush without having to blitz as much would help that???
